Animal testing isn’t as critical in the medical world as the companies who make money off of it would like people to believe. In an article by Christopher Anderggetal, “Animal Experimentation is Not Vital to Medical Research”, Anderggetal states “The value of animal experimentation has been grossly exaggerated by those with a …show more content…
“Crucial genetic, molecular, immunologic, and cellular differences between humans and other animals have prevented animal models from serving as effective means by which to seek a cancer cure.” (Anderggetal 147). Many nonhuman animals don’t naturally suffer the diseases that the drug that’s being tested on them cures. This makes it so test results are often inaccurate. “Nine out of every ten canidate medicines that appear safe and effective in animal studies fail when given to humans.” (Human Society International, About Animal Testing. 24 February 2016).
Arguments for animal experimentation oftentimes go back to the supposed benefits of it. Arguments have been made that animal experimentation is extremely beneficial and saves lives. In reality, “A great deal of animal experimentation has been misleading and resulted in either withholding of drugs, sometimes for years, that were subsequently found to be highly beneficial to humans, or to the release and use of drugs that, though harmless to animals, have actually contributed to human suffering and death.” (Jane Goodall 'Reason for Hope', 1999) Animal testing doesn’t have a huge effect on the medical world, and sometimes can limit advancements and life saving drugs simply because they didn’t work on an animal that the drug was tested
