Consequently we communicate with each other to build and maintain relationships with others, to socialise, to give and receive information and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, knowledge, feelings, and emotions, to share experiences, to give encouragement and show others they are valued.

4.1 Define the term “confidentiality”.
Confidentiality means not sharing information about individuals without their knowledge and agreement and ensuring that written and electronic information cannot be accessed or read by people who have no reason to see it.
4.2 Describe ways to maintain confidentiality in day-to-day communication.
* Do not leave personal information about individuals unattended. Records should be locked safely away. * Do not leave computers on or allow other people to use your passwords. * Do not conduct conversations (including telephone conversations) about the individuals you support or any aspect of your work, in a public or anywhere you can be overheard. * Do not disclose information (written or verbal) to anyone unless you are sure that they have the right to see it.
