Describe and demonstrate the sport injury; the mechanism of injury, assessment of injury, rehabilitation of the injury and prevention…
The ankles are a very important part of the human body. They are a multifaceted supporting structure that can cause incapacity and absence from regular daily activity if injured. The tibiofibular joint ligaments of the foot permit stabilization of the forward motion. Complications can become grounds for arthritis, loose body formation and instability. The sprain of the ankle is quite common in many contact sports but also in normal daily activities. Ankle sprains are linked with and known to be common in sports like soccer, football, basketball, volleyball and sprinting. In soccer, according to FIFA ratings, the risk rate for an ankle sprain is 10%. The rate is not confirmable due to sufferers in different matches; sometimes 3 players suffer…
Football consists of a team of talented, skilled individuals that display strength, power and speed to play the game. Without these traits, a player will certainly be a failure to the game and the team. It is a very rough form of entertainment that we all love to watch with our families and friends. It is rather ironic that although we do not promote players to hurt each other; in the game of football, we seem to send the opposite message that it’s alright to get hurt, nonetheless, a sport where players understand that in order to stand out amongst other players, the harder they exert effort into the game also increases their risk of sustaining unpredictable injuries.…
This semester I am taking five other courses besides this one. One of my more interesting classes is Kinesiology 220, otherwise known as Introduction to Athletic Injuries. This class focuses on injury in sport and how to deal with it as an athlete, athletic trainer, coach, or physical therapist. We learn all about how injuries are onset, whether it be acute (a direct impact or action resulting in injury), or chronic (an ongoing action that slowly wears down a part of the body resulting in injury). We also discuss what types of injuries occur more in certain sports, or even because of what gender you are. For example, women are more prone to knee injuries such as ACL tears than men are. Studies have been done and while there is no set reason…
This study by Michael Cusimano, which looked at ways to prevent injuries in hockey showed that there are rule changes that can help to prevent injuries. One of these rule change is putting a ban on body checking. These rules need to change because of statistics like body checking causing 15% of all injuries in youth hockey (Cusimano). He also found that in leagues that allowed body checking, the players were significantly more likely to suffer concussions or fractures (Cusimano). When facts like this are shown, it shows how one simple rule change at younger levels can do a lot to lessen the risk of…
Soccer is an amazing and enjoyable sport with great benefits and passionate fans, but also great risks to the player’s health that should be made known. Injuries like ACL tears, stress fractures, and concussions are serious and real risks to player’s health. Not only is it a personal duty of a coach, but also of the players, and even fans to make sure that injuries, no matter how minor they are perceived, are given the proper attention and proper recovery methods to ensure…
In football the most common injury is concussions. I think that football is just too risky. Isaiah Kahut got a concussion by a hit to the head. He said he could hear and see but didn’t know what was going on around him. He had to stay in a dark room for two weeks for his brain to heal. I wouldn’t want to stay in a dark room with nobody to talk to.…
Tennis is a highly competitive sport with participation in over 200 countries throughout the world. It is a non-contact racquet sport which requires aspects such as strength, power, speed, coordination and agility. Like any sport, tennis places specific demands on the body which can predispose any player to injury. These demands placed on the body result in injuries specific to the game. It is said by Pluim et al (2006) that although many injuries that occur in tennis are common in other sports, tennis has its own unique profile of injuries. (1) Injuries such as lateral ankle sprains, calf strains, lower back pain, tennis toe, shoulder impingement, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), ulnar collateral ligament tears and wrist strains are all…
Many sportsmen suffer various kinds of injuries while playing and some of these injuries are as a result of negligence, unexpected violence, inadequate supervision or construction, or unsafe facilities. Sports injuries range from mild to severe and over a period, these injuries can affect your career. One can avoid such injuries by exercising appropriate safety and taking the necessary precaution. If you have suffered from such injuries due to another party’s negligence, you can make a sports-related accident claim to help you get suitable compensation.…
Finally, sports can cause way to many injuries. Way too many kids are getting hurt in all kinds of sports and it’s not good. The article High School, College Football Comes With Risk says, “… found that boys aged 10 to 14 were most likely to end up in the nation’s emergency departments with a traumatic brain injury, and that activities such as bicycling, horseback riding, football, basketball and use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were most often to blame.” This quote is saying that boys 10 to 14 were more likely to end up in the er than older/younger boys when doing things like sports. The same article also states, “… the researchers estimate there were 517,726 football-related injuries during the 2005-2006 season at the high school level…
Professional athletes are not the only ones who incur sports injuries. According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, athletes who participate in sports infrequently and/or below collegiate level are just as likely to incur an injury as high skilled athletes--ones who are at least at collegiate level or who play professionally. When it comes to sports medicine Frisco TX athletes can avoid the most common sports injuries by being aware of what they are. Also, take them into consideration with how likely they are to occur in the sports you play.…
In sports, everyone who commits to playing for an organized team knows that there is a large risk. Athletes are being injured in the sport of football. The danger of full contact sport because it is so widely commercialized in for all ages.…
Over the past decade, soccer has been becoming an even more popular sport than it once was. With this popularity though, comes a greater chance for injury. Most soccer-related injuries include ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears or meniscus tears, but there is a much more dangerous injury making up “22% of the total injuries in football” (Al-Kashmiri 189). Note, that in this instance, and many more, “football” is referring to the non-American term for soccer. A concussion, defined by Monica E. Maher, is “a complex pathophysiological process, induced by traumatic biomechanical forces” (271). Since soccer is a growing popular sport, especially in young children, there are many ways for amateur players to get injured.…
Playing sports can be very fun and entertaining, but there can also be risks that come along the way that detract from the enjoyment. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, as stated before Nearly 30 million U.S. children and youth are involved in organized sports. Also “high school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations each year” (Alvarez, 2014). As the article says there are too many teens who play in high school sports that are getting injured year round. The number would largely decrease if someone who is certified in sports injuries, like an athletic trainer, was there at games and…
“Write your injuries in dust, your benefits in marble”, Benjamin Franklin stated. It was a Tuesday night late winter in Austin at Westwood High School. Tonight was the night we competed with one of district rivals the Westwood Warriors, and where both teams would put everything on the line in order to win the game hoping to better the chances of securing a state playoff spot. The game remained equal at 0 to 0 till the second half, where we finally with 10 minutes left in the game took the lead. The goal was a pivotal point in the game and everything change for the worst for myself.…
