At least 1500 hours are required for barbers to be allowed to take exams. The youngest you can be to become a barber starts at the age of sixteen. You must also have a high school diploma or a GED as well, in order to be able to qualify to become a barber. There are many requirements a barber first needs to complete in order to pass exams by the state. Not only are there requirements for barbers to pass, but there are also many challenges a barber needs to surpass in his career. A barber needs to overcome challenges such as low clientele when starting off, establishing a good reputation, getting adjusted to the rate of pay when they first start off etc. It will not always be easy for barbers when they start cutting hair in a new barber shop because of the trust they have not yet built. It takes time but eventually through the skill they prove, clientele comes in. through the clients a barber gets, his reputation starts to build up, as well as being paid more.
