Air quality and climate change are interrelated, thus policies that address both issues simultaneously may provide better health, economic, and environmental benefits. Air quality and climate change are influenced by common air pollutants. As such, focusing on one pollutant to improve air quality may increase or decrease other pollutants that affect climate change (Thambiran & Diab, 2011). The complex interaction between air quality and climate change makes it…

The most vulnerable impact of climate change in Canada is the production of forestry. Every year, almost 6 billion trees are cut down leaving not only pollutants of factories that produce greenhouse effects, but leaving ecosystems destroyed and animals vulnerable. In addition, as a result of human activities in Canada-that produce immense amounts of CO2-causes ice sheets and alpine glaciers to melt- taking a substantial toll on Arctic ecosystems. Moreover, the rising levels of CO2 affects Canada's weather and climate patterns as some regions may experience more extreme heat while others may cool slightly. Flooding, drought, and violent storms and other extreme weather events are some of the consequences and issues that affect our society.…

Over the years people have lost more and more care for the Earth and it is suffering the consequences of this neglect. A bad stewardship of the planet makes it respond with problems such as Air Pollution, Global warming, Water Pollution, overpopulation, etc. We think that as stewards of the planet we have the rights to do what we want with it, but this is damaging it, and us as well. We are the only ones here with the power and capability to change this, and there are certain estrategies that we can implement in order to make a positive impact on our Earth's water, land, and air.…

Air Canada is one of the largest airlines in the world. It is a company that supports the development and use of alternative, environmentally friendly fuels such as biofuels. While this is true, all their decisions are informed by economic, environmental and social sustainability. With air travel demand growing, there is an increase in fuel consumption. Currently, combustion of fossil fuel is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, which has a large impact on climate change. Air Canada’s commitment to greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. As the technology develops for producing biofuels, and costs for sustainable biofuels are reduced, the use of bio-aviation fuels will play a major role in reducing pollutants enabling the company to reduce…

When a force as strong as gravity strikes, can one truly be prepared to face its wrath? Unfortunately, Mother Nature is unpredictable in her many forms, and climate change is another embodiment. People around the world are ignorant of the subtly approaching climate change and its dangers, while the vulnerable indigenous people of the north have fallen victim to its threats. Health in Nunavut, Canada has been a rising concern in recent years. The reading, “Community perspectives on the impact of climate change on health in Nunavut, Canada,” written by Healey et al, states that the consequences of climate change will result in environment assault, rapidly deteriorating health and loss of identity that will one day lead to an international crisis.…

    Climate Change In Canada

“Climate change is one of the greatest threats of our time”(Government of Canada). Climate change is a shift in weather condition that is long-term. Human activities like burning fossil fuels release carbon into the atmosphere causing a buildup of greenhouse gases. The burning of fossil fuels currently accounts for about 70-90 % of human emissions that are greenhouse gases (Government of Canada). Greenhouse gas acts as a blanket surrounding the earth causing the earth to heat up and affect wind patterns, precipitation and storms. The recent development of technology that releases more carbon and deforestation has caused climate change to become a huge issue. As much as 40% of some greenhouse gases will last for 1,000 years in the atmosphere (Globe and Mail). Canadians need to take action to reduce greenhouse gases which leads to climate change because it causes problems with weather, bodies of water, and health. Firstly, because of climate change there has and will be more frequent and longer lasting extreme weather conditions like floods, heat waves, droughts and wildfires. Some areas will become drier causing droughts, and causing forests…

Canada is a fast-growing country, which means that the economy is developing rapidly. The impact of these factors can be point out as air pollution. The main source of air pollution in Canada is the energy that burn fossil fuels. The most significant major is the Alberta Oil Sands. Alberta’s air quality is the worst compared to other cities. So, what can we do to change this bad situation? The answer is ‘Wind Power’. Wind power, the use of air flow through wind turbines to mechanically power generators for electric power .an alternative energy that can replace burning fossil fuels, it is clean, renewable, produces non greenhouse gas emissions, consumes no water, and uses less…

On Earth, climate change is a major factor that is happening and affecting everything. Climate change is also affecting Canada’s many primary resource industries. One specific primary industry is the forestry industry in British Columbia. Out of all the industries in Canada, I think that the forestry industry is the most impacted by climate change. Climate change is affecting British Columbia severely because of the mountain pine beetle. The mountain pine beetle is a bug that is native to the forests of western North America from Mexico to British Columbia. It is a very small (5mm) black bug that is very hard to identify. The mountain pine beetle is responsible for destroying the trees that are harvested by the forestry industries by blocking…

The environment is affected by the deposition in the ozone layer. It is directly affecting the environment, because the environment is being negatively impacted, because of the depletion in the ozone. This depletion was created, because of all the CFC that is being released by all the factories and other machines that pollute the air. The UVB radiation affects the physiological and developmental processes of plants. Even though there is the existence of various machines and methods to reduce or repair these negative effects and have an ability to change to fit the increased levels of UV sunlight. Plant growth can be directly affected by UV sunlight radiation, in a dreadful way. Indirect changes caused by UV sunlight ,such as changes in plant…

In the absence of other changes, stratospheric ozone abundances should rise in the future as the halogen loading falls in response to regulation. However, the future behaviour of ozone will also be affected by the changing atmospheric abundances of methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour, sulphate aerosol, and changing climate.
