PETRONAS also collaborate with contractors to encourage shared ownership and accountability to facilitate better project delivery and HSE performance. For Land Transportation Safety, Zero Tolerance Rules (ZeTo Rules) have been implemented to the employees and third-party personnel when carrying out PETRONAS’ business activities. Moreover, SMITH Defensive Driving System is also implemented to instill stronger road discipline among drivers, besides reducing potential spills and collision risk. For Road Safety, PETRONAS aimed to promote basic road safety protocol and procedures, and proper usage of safety devices in their road safety programmes. For WAH, PETRONAS’ training modules highlight the criticality of adequate work planning, control barriers, regular audits and good decision making. In short, full commitment from all levels of management, staff and contractors are necessary to promote sustainable safe working practices and behaviors.
d) Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene
PETRONAS conducted Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) to evaluate health effects that may arise following exposure to physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial and ergonomic-related substances. Besides HRAs, Fitness to Work (FTW) assessment is also conducted to minimize the risks of injuries and illness caused by mismatch of mental and physical fitness in meeting job demands. In addition to HRA and FTW practices, Chemical Exposure Monitoring and Health Surveillance are also carried out besides timely health advisories.
