During my two years at Mississippi State, I have been very focused on my academics. I have put in many hours of hard work to achieve my goal of maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Attending class and making good grades are important aspects of my college life, but developing relationships with my fellow college students and growing the friendships that I have made are some of the most important aspects of college. Mechanical team has enabled me to build valuable relationships and given me a glimpse at the inner workings of an engineering team. I am also active in the Baptist Student Union where I help with Noonday meal and International hour. Interacting with International students at the BSU and learning about their different cultures has increased my desire to travel to different regions and experience various cultures first-hand.
Although I have gained a great deal of experience at Mississippi State, I have never participated in any type of study abroad program, and I believe this would be a great experience to visit a new country and learn about the history and culture.
Taking a class in a different country would also help me break my normal school routine. My family does not take many vacations, so I am very excited about the chance to travel to Europe. I have always been fascinated with history, and being able to visit some of the places I have learned about would be an amazing experience. As an engineer, being able to see how engineers from other countries function will help me better understand the field of engineering at a global level.
As a Pell grant recipient, funding for a trip like this is not easy to come by for my family. Without this scholarship, it would be difficult for me to afford this trip. I believe that I will be able to make enduring relationships and gain knowledge that I can apply to the rest of my studies and, eventually, my career in
engineering.
