Childhood Asthma Letter
To the Honorable Beto O’Rourke,

Good day sir, I hope all is going well for you. I’m writing to you because I wish to ask for your

assistance with getting my re-enlistment code changed. A few months back, I was separated from the

Air Force due to the belief that I was still affected by childhood asthma. When I first enlisted, I brought

up the childhood asthma to the recruiter and I said that I haven’t had any symptoms since the age of 10

or used my rescue inhaler since I was 7, he stated I would be fine and wouldn’t need a waiver to

continue the process since it was before the age of 13. I completed the recruitment process, went to

basic and was pulled out of my third week of training and was told that my training is frozen until further

notice.

After hearing all of this, she said “Since your medical record

doesn’t state that the incident wasn’t asthma related, we’re still going to have to separate you.” I was

given the option to fight my case to stay in, to which I accepted and was told to create a rebuttal. I

waited 2 months until I finally lost my case, which resulted in my separation. However, the day before I

was discharged, I was reassured by a different Major that I would be able to re-enlist with no problem,

which was confirmed by multiple officers and instructors. I was told I had to wait a minimum of 6

months and the only thing I would need to do is apply for a waiver, or I could wait 2 years. I decided to

wait 6 months and apply for a waiver. I was told by my recruiter that if I wanted to make the process go

easier and smoother, I need to get a clearance letter from my doctor. I did so and recently tried re-

enlisting, only to find out that my re-enlistment code on my DD 214 says “4C”, which prevents me from

re-enlisting in any branch of service. I told my recruiter and asked him what it needed to say and he said

a 1 and a 3, which means I’d be eligible for re-enlistment

I will re-enlist because I have hope that the Committee of Congress will be here for us in times of need. The picture in Document B shows, “George Washington presenting the Congressional Committee to soldiers at Valley Forge”, this showed me that George Washington knows what he’s doing and knows how to treat his men. Having the Congressional Committee stop by and retrieve supplies for the retreat gave everyone hope that the people do care for our health. If the people from the Congressional Committee are loyal to us then it just seems right to be loyal for them.…

Continued misbehavior of this type may result in judicial punishment or non-judicial punishment under Article 15 of the UCMJ adverse administrative personnel actions. Potential adverse actions may include: written or oral reprimands, a bar to reenlistment, extra training, suspension or revocation of your security clearance, and involuntary separation under AR 635-200, Chapter 13, Unsatisfactory Performance or Chapter 14, Misconduct. The impact of adverse separation can be severe depending upon the type of discharge you receive. A dishonorable discharge deprives a soldier of all veteran's benefits and may deprive him or her of their civil rights. If separated for your duty performance, the least favorable character of discharge you could receive is an under other than honorable conditions discharge. Both may cause undue hardships in civilian life and may reflect on your eligibility for veteran's benefits, eligibility for reentry into the Armed Forces, and acceptability for employment in the civilian community.…

    ARMY AIT phasing up essay

Yes I know that a lot of basic training soldiers who just graduated come here and think its time to party and go to school like this is some college campus so I understand you have to have rules and regulations to keep those students in check. BUT how about the mature adults who are twenty five to thirty five years old and have to come and put up with these rules that make us feel like children. Take the prior service soldiers who come in and don't have to deal with these ridiculous rules, why can't the higher ups take AIT soldiers who are married and have families into consideration and allow the automatic phasing after time served especially after passing the first course, which I will go into detail later on. Some of the older students should in the age range I mentioned should be allow to phase up as soon as the first course is done and the student has passed the course. I can not stress enough the fact the just passing the first course at the fast pace that the military expects us to pass it in is a feat in itself, guaranteed most the people that come into the army at that stage in their life is going to have a hard…
