Some people say that Children deserved to get paid because school is like their “job”. It is not only the schools who could be paying students for their grades, it could be their parents too. First off, that would not work for parents on a lower income, whose budget is probably very tight. Parents already do so much to ensure their children are getting a good education, they should not have to bribe them to do their work. Why should kids be paid for doing a professionals job? The debate on whether or not to pay college athletes is a debate that has been argued for quite some time. Due to the lack of positive results, and a surplus of negatives, this should not take place. There is no way to muster up a fair system to pay the athletes while keeping everyone happy. Also, paying players will distract them from their academics due to them knowing that they can make money playing sports. Lastly, the athletes already have an opportunity for money with scholarships. Therefore, in order to keep college athletes happy and focused on school while still giving them an opportunity to receive scholarships, the students should not be paid for their athletic performances.…

Another problem is that even though student athletes are big part of campus life, the NCAA has created a monster that makes athletes try to focus more on their skill at their sport than trying to improve their education. If these athletes were paid, then they could focus on both and not have to think about their future in sports and try to improve their education in case they do not make it to the professional league (Staudohar and…

Every year people scream and complain that college athletes should be "compensated" for their work on the field. We hear that because college athletes generate money to the university they should get money back. Maybe we should pay high school athletes too, they generate money. College athletes in major universities don't pay for transportation, tuition or team facilities. On top of a free ride the school should pay them as well? Not a chance. I have some very good reasons why college athletes should not be paid.…

College players need to get paid for what they do. When college players do not get paid, they do not get paid for the great things that they do on national TV. College players make more money for school playing their sport than people's salaries. Did you know that just if you make it to the NCAA BCS game, you get at least six million dollars. That's not even if you win. Sure student athletes get free things like free tuition, board, room fees, and food, but paying players would give them money for things like laundry, late night snacks, food for restaurants when on the road, and just different things. The three reasons why student athletes should get paid is because playing a college sport is like having a job, college players make money for…

Student athletes in college should not get paid as much as professionals but a smaller portion would be appreciated. The small portion would help the student athletes a lot with tuition if they have to pay for school. If they don’t have to pay for tuition and have full ride scholarships then it would help them pay for classes and books for those classes. One more thing that that small amount of money the student athletes should be paid would help with is not having to work or have another job off campus or away from the college the student athlete is attending. In the end, there are no question that the colleges should pay their…

It's just a very bad idea in general. We would be giving people money for what they won't be doing to prepare for their future. Paying them could also risk the possibilities of finishing college and getting their degree. “Athletes who take to a classroom naturally or are encouraged to focus on grades should be able to do well in the classroom. I believe the reason you go to college is to get your degree. It’s not a minor league or an audition for the pros.” (Lobo). When you go to college, college is supposed to prepare you for the future like jobs and how to financially help you, Not pay you!…

He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head-Emil Zatopek.” This quote shows that if you're happy playing your favorite sport then money should be the last thing you should be worried about. The idea of paying college athletes has been thrown around for a couple years. Some student athletes feel that they bring in a great deal of money to their universities, but they do not see one penny of it. These students think they should be getting paid because they put a great deal of their time and effort into playing. Instead of paying students, universities and the NCAA make sure the students have everything they need in other ways. Student athletes should not be paid for their participation…

Young kids dream about one day playing for their favorite colleges. Being starting quarterback at Alabama, or the number one basketball player on Duke. Once those kids who make it make it, they get the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only the free education, as mentioned prior, but the chance to show their skills and make it pro. Athletes shouldn’t get paid because sports are like an audition. They have to put in the hard work and get recognized, just like at a business, working your way up to corporate ladder. To add on, they get free publicity from television. Their talents are shown across the country, making it easier for pro organizations to scout them. Maybe they don’t want to go pro and are there just for the love of the game. Money would ruin that. College athletes would not try as hard if they knew that they could get paid. They would play easier so they wouldn’t get hurt and continue to collect check after check. College sports are about “The pride, and intense gratification that winning brings”…

Some people believe they should not be paid because the already receive scholarships to a university which everything is suppose to be payed for. Top colleges athletes already get plenty of benefits, such as scholarships and free tutoring. (Scholastic News 2). However, this is not necessarily always true. Although some universities offer athletic scholarships, they do not pay for all expenses (Time for Kids 3). They are not necessarily getting paid, yes they are getting tuition money for school, rooms, and books, but they are not receiving money to help them if they have an injury, buy clothes, or food. Other people believe college is a place for learning, not earning. If college athletes get paid, they may not be motivated to focus on their schoolwork (Time for Kids 3). Again, this is not necessarily true. Yes, college is a place for learning. But college athletes are focusing and learning for their career they chosen, sports. If they are paid, they will be highly motivated because if they fail their schoolwork, they cannot compete in their sport. Many of the reasons to not pay college athletes are…
