Choose the Right Choice (Reading Response)

Both books Summer of secrets and The First Part Last have similar characters but each character is different with the social issues they are under. For example, both books have teenagers forced to make a choice in their life for better or worse. A teenage boy named Bobby in The First Part Last has to choose whether to give his baby Feather, to a social worker, or be the father Feather deserves. In the book Summer of Secrets, a girl named Darcy is going through hard times and needs to choose whether to share problems of hers or not, especially when she always tries to hide it with lies. Her friend Brisana has to choose whether or not she wants to change herself to be with a boy, Duane, forever. Overall, both books Summer of secrets and The First Part Last have similar characters but each character is different with the social issues they are under In the two books, Summer of Secrets and The First Part Last, They both include problems teenagers face in life and both books include characters that are forced to choose an option. They want to choose the right choice, best for themselves and for people around them that care about them. For example, in Summer of Secrets, a girl named Brisana changed herself completely to impress her boyfriend, Duane. When she thought that she was pregnant, Duane kept denying that the baby was his, where she noticed that he didn’t care about her at all. Luckily, her test was negative but she has to choose if she really wants to be with him or not. She wants to choose what’s right, with the help of the doctor that checked her, Dr. Styles, “take the time to make sure you know the person you are with, to make sure he deserves you and isn’t using you.” In The First Part Last, Bobby is the only parent taking care of his baby Feather, and he has to choose whether or not he wants Feather to be with another family or be a worthy father of Feather.
