The great Highness Ferdinand the second has rented and provided Christopher Columbus and the crew with the great Santa Maria,My job is to work as a Helmsman steering the ship to land.About a week ago I had received a letter from the king, about going to explore, at first at didn't care about it but after I saw the offers and jump at the chance. The crew and our captain said our goodbyes and set sail to Asia.Caption Christopher is using all water route He hopes this route will get us there faster and for less gold. I am feeling lonely even though there is people among me.The ship was humongous the port and starboard had huge ropes. I could also see the Nina and Pinta sailing with us on our starboard and on our port.We were looking for spices it was like gold if we could bring it back to Spain. It is amazing on this ship. It going to be a long voyage. Thank you for your support Mother.

A crew had left the food open and now it’s gone bad. We are going to run out of fresh food soon. The crew has already gone hungry the crew is dying from scurvy and many other more dieses. I think we are close to land. As soon as we saw an albatross the crew was boarded on the Pinta by Martín Alonso Pinzón because the Pinta was a Caravel and was not that big thus carrying trades and people, we set off to land. We prepared everything for landing on the Pinta and ready to land. Then I saw land, i saw people indigenous holding spears ready to throw at us we pulled down our flag ready to land. I was so scared of thee spears. Our ship landed on the coast of somewhere unknown, it's not Asia the people were holding spears at us.We were looking for spices it was like gold if we could bring it back to Spain. The kings is depending on us to find a new route for

‘Course, I only have Mamá that is my family and it would break her heart if I died out at sea. The rudder of ‘da Pinta slipped so we had to make an unthought-of stop at the Canary Island. Christopher Columbus first voyage was a discovery of different plant and animal species as he made multiple references about the beauty of San Salvador and its inhabitants. I assume that the various species of plants that are on the land could be put to good use as he saved large quantities of aloe and other items for the person he refers to as “your highness”- who is that? While reading the passage, I noticed how he instantly insults the integrity of the island people as he describes them as inoffensive and unintelligent due to their different customs. He takes their kindness and uses it against them by offering them what he calls “trifling items” for valuables such as baskets of cotton. Since the native people believed that…

One could say that Columbus’ miscalculations during his voyage to “the East Indies” discredit his talent at sea, but his thoughts on the magnetic field and sea routes show that he was a superior navigator. Also, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella weren’t paraded with sailors willing to take on this unknown journey due to the belief that the Earth was flat. In contrast, Columbus’ proposition that the Earth was round made him capable of taking risks, not allowing himself to be held back from opportunities from fear of “falling off”. Columbus’ plan of going westward to the East Indies rather than east, though a prolonged acceptance, intrigued the two monarchs from the start, especially since the previous used way, the Silk Road, was no longer safe after the fall of the Mongolian Empire and the fall of Constantinople. Ending trade with Asia was not an option, so it was imperative that another trade route was found, and although…

It was a bright and warm afternoon. The seagulls were squawking, the waves were crashing against each other, and the children were laughing. If you looked off the side of the cruise ship you could see the very pretty greenish blue sea, you could see the dolphins jumping in and out of the water. This particular cruise ship went around the Caribbean. Through the stunning coral reefs and crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Bahamas, and the shallow warm waters of Puerto Rico.…

In the Journal of Christopher Columbus (1492), the author Columbus explicitly wrote a message to inform the Europeans that the Native Americans are people who are willing to corporate with the European economy. However, it seems that the people are eager to corporate because they have a custom of sharing their goods with others and strangers. Therefore, Columbus mentions that the indigenous are intelligent and worth of good servants. Overall, the message that Columbus was trying to get across was that the native would do whatever the Europeans orders and tells them what to do. Columbus even makes it clear that the missionaries have a high chance to talk with the indigenous and convert them to Christianity.…

Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. He did so using primitive technology compared to today’s standards. He had lunar maps, a compass, while navigators nowadays have GPS, superior building materials and techniques, and satellite communications. Christopher Columbus could have made great use of these technologies in his voyage to America. He used celestial navigation to get an idea of where he was going. With technology nowadays there’s hardly room for error. In this essay I will be comparing the technologies of Christopher Columbus with modern day naval navigation equipment. Also how useful this equipment would be to Columbus on his voyage to look for new trade…

Woven into the writings of “Letter: the first voyage” there is an abundance amount of instances that illustrate the overriding theme of discovery and how it has been called to question at times throughout the journey. The writing begins with an optimistic tone when Columbus addresses God and a hope for a successful voyage, “The eternal God who has given your highnesses so many victories now gave you the greatest one that to this day he has ever given any prince” (page 1). Columbus is ready for his conquest and is in high hopes for success with his journey. However, as we read along we find that Columbus encounters more setbacks and discouragement, “I traveled thirty-three days after departing from your kingdoms; after fourteen of the thirty-three days there were light winds in which I discovered no ground” (Page 1). Columbus goes through many different stages of feelings and the first page seems to represent it from the beginning.…

    The Umbrella Of Idealism

    • 662 Words
    • 2 Pages

The story begins with the author describing the trouble that the crew and their ship are facing. The readers are then introduced to the consequences if their boat, Sally Anne, doesn’t get to the shore. If Sally Anne manages to reach the shore then that is problematic since both sides of the 20 mile stretch there is no real shore, however, the first mate remains to be optimistic about his trusted boat. The first mate feels that the intricacy of the Sally Anne’s design will protect her from harm while the complexity would “guarantee its existence”. The first mate’s idealism is overwhelming in comparison to the truth that is presented to him and the crew. This also appears in another situation where he finds out the disappearance of his fellow crew member, Triggvi.…
