Chromatsu Monologue
No one knew how this virus surfaced. The source is unclear, a lot of people blamed the government. They probably knew this was happening and didn’t bother to fix it. People were demanding answers, The only thing they did know that it was airborne. It was a slow and painful death. It was something you didn’t wish on your sworn enemy.

Now people were wearing masks in an attempt to ward off the virus. Everyone has a curfew in the city of Tokyo. They are expected to be indoors by 8pm. If people were out after that, they were to be detained. ‘It was for their safety’ they say.

Choromatsu sighs heavily under his mask, he had gotten a call, stating that his older brother was being held for being out late after curfew. This was what? The fifth

Ichimatsu had refused to leave his brothers side. No matter, how much he was told to leave. He remained with his brother, which was a cause for alarm. Choromatsu feared that, despite him wearing the mask, it would spread to him too. If they force his brother out the room, he would put up a fight. It was something that he wanted to avoid, it was inevitable. They had to do it.

He had been watching from a distance, he was in and out of the room for several weeks now, tending to his younger brothers need’s, he had tried to give him over-the-counter medication. It didn’t help. He tried everything to help, he had put a cold rag over his brother’s head to dispel the fever. He had taken off his shirt and turned on the air conditioner in an effort to cool him down.

Choromatsu had tried to feed him. Jyushimatsu had ended up throwing up the rest of the food. He was losing weight. He looked frail and thin.

He didn’t know what else to do. There was another option. It was to take him to the hospital, though the hospital was probably backed up by patients with the same symptoms and even if they did see him, it was likely they would send him to the quarantine zone where they send all the people with the same symptoms, however, once they are in the quarantine zone, it was possible that they wouldn’t see their brother

The reader knows that “all was not right” because it says in the chapter “The sickness began with chills, headache, and a painful aching in the back, arms, and legs. A high fever developed accompanied by constipation. This stage lasted around three days, and then the fever suddenly broke and the patient seemed to recover. But only for a few short hours.” This quotation is showing us that this fever wasn't like the ones they had. Normally their fevers would be able to go down because of the medicine they gave the patient but this fever would go away for a short amount of time and com right because.…

This epidemic originated in China, where it killed about 35 million people. It spread rapidly through Europe in the mid-fourteenth century. New forms of commerce and trade, including Mongol control of the central Asian Silk Routes, facilitated its transmission. First occurring in the 1330s, the epidemic spread westward with traders and merchants, and arrived in Italian port cities as early as 1347. Crowded conditions, lack of sanitation, and lack of medical knowledge contributed to its rapid spread. Within 50 years, 1/3 of Europe’s population was dead, traditional feudal hierarchies were obsolete, religious hatred intensified, and people lost faith in the power of the church. They shifted toward a commercial economy, more individual freedom, and development of new industries.…

When his two nearest companions pulled away his clothes and looked at his neck, they had said him a solemn farewell in expectation of his death. We 'll meet again in a better world, they said. He was classed among the dying and put aside on a cot to do so. But he failed at it. After two days, space being short, they sent him on to a regular hospital in his own state. All through the mess of the field hospital and the long grim train ride south in a boxcar filled with wounded, he had agreed with his friends and the doctors. He thought he would die. About all he could remember of the trip was the heat and the odors of blood and of shit, for many of the wounded had the flux. (Frazier, 4)…
