Clean and Clear When finishing high school and going into college you have to decide on what profession you would like to major on. Many people are interested in studying to become doctors; there are many types of doctors. You may want to become a podiatrist, which specializes on people feet. Or you might want to be a pediatrician, specializing in the general health of children. A type of doctor I find interesting is a dermatologist. A dermatologist is a doctor which deals with anything that has to do with the skin; I am interested in becoming a dermatologist to assist people with skin problems. In your teen years you can go through many problems. One problem I had to go through was having bad acne. During the time I had acne I turned depressed, I gained a lot of weight, and I stopped leaving my house. It made me feel horrendous and I hated my face. Finally after many months of stalling I finally made my mom take me to a dermatologist. I was so nervous to go see a doctor about my face, but I know that was the only way I was going to get my life back. Going into the dermatologist’s office I didn’t know what I was going to expect. He came in and talk to me for a couple of minutes and left. We had only been there for a small amount of time and we were charged for that. That moment is when I realized I wanted to become a dermatologist. It’s amazing how a person can get paid for hardly doing anything. I know that going into a medical field will take a lot of school and studying. It is also going to be hard and stressful, but in the end it will all pay off. Another reason for my desire to become a dermatologist is because I would like to help the teens and adults that are going through what I went through. Having a skin problem like acne can make people very self-conscious. I want to be able to help patients feel confident and beautiful in their skin. So many people have skin problems

Ever since I was a young girl I’ve had an interest in skincare. Of course, I loved playing with makeup, but what I enjoyed most was the understanding of skin. Why does our skin react to certain things? How do we prevent the bad reactions from happening? Why does everyone’s skin react differently compared to each other? These were few of the endless questions I would inquire my mother about everyday. As always my mother never disappoints, and she always was able to answer every single question. Due to my mother’s knowledge of skincare, I was inspired to obtain the same knowledge for something I’m so passionate about.…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

My ideal job is being a pediatrician. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “General pediatricians provide care for infants, children, teenagers, and young adults. They specialize in diagnosing and treating problems specific to younger people. Most pediatricians treat common illnesses, minor injuries, and infectious diseases, and administer vaccinations. Some pediatricians specialize in pediatric surgery or serious medical conditions that commonly affect younger patients, such as autoimmune disorders or chronic ailments”. All my life, I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I decided to major in the medical field when I was in 5th grade; at first I wanted to be a pediatrician, but now I want to have a degree in tropical medicine…

Everything in my life began to change, from my friends to my attitude. My future was looking bright. The only thing left was to pick a profession, something that would ignite my spark. That was when my parents were involved in a terrible accident. In March 2009, my parents were pedestrians struck by a car. My mother was diagnosed with a fractured tibial plateau, and was wheelchair bound for five months. During this difficult time I accompanied her to numerous appointments and met many different medical personnel. Surprisingly, I became inspired. It was an awful time for my family, but it was an experience that changed my life. Everything about the healthcare system fascinated me. I asked many questions about medications, imaging techniques that were used on my mother, and job descriptions of practically everyone I had encountered. I remember telling a nurse about how I found the hospital to be the most interesting place that I have ever visited and she replied, “Well if you feel that way, you should become a doctor, they practically live…

This great country on the federal, state, and local level needs to invest more money in educating its citizens. In the past the United States boasted a higher percentage of technically trained, well educated, top of their field professionals to fulfill the needs of not only this great country, but those of the rest of the world too. However those days seem to be over. Today most highly technical and intellectual jobs such as engineering, chemistry, physics, and research doctors are held by individuals who were educated elsewhere. Students in the United States test among the lowest in the world in the basic skills of math, science, and English. It is evident that educating the Americans of the future generation has somehow gotten way too low on this country’s priority list. We have done a poor job of properly educating our citizens in recent years to be able to compete in the world market of tomorrow. The United States should pass legislature mandating higher pay for K-12 teachers, higher test scoring standards for schools, teachers, and students, smaller classrooms, and colleges should start actively recruiting prospective students in public schools at the elementary age, which is much earlier than they do today.…

In reality it is highly unlikely for a employer to call or write you a letter stating these exact words. It is possible however, to feel as if they did. To be able to make a difference in other people's lives by helping them achieve their goals is very important to me. I wish to make a difference no matter how small.
