The biggest challenge I had to overcome in order to complete Comfort Zone was my fear of telling a story that was personal. I felt exposed and was terrified people would not like or connect to the film. On top of that I did not feel truly confident about directing my short film because I have never done anything like this before. However, I built the courage to send the script to a few close friends who have filmmaking experience and asked for advice. One friend helped me every step of the way and gave me the confidence I needed to complete this project. He sent me constructive criticism for each draft of my script, he answered any questions I had and lastly, he gave me tips for a first time director. All these resources are elements necessary for me to be successful at CSULB, but not having enough money for all these things has made my college experience difficult. My father is the only one in my family of six that works. He barely makes enough to maintain my family with the daily necessities. I am the second person going to college from my family and I am funding my education on my own just as my older brother did. I have applied to every available scholarship and any money awarded to me will be a great help.
