Community Service In High Schools
The debate on whether or not high school students should be required to complete community service has been a long ongoing discussion. Many are still split on the topic. While I believe high school students should be required to complete community service, I don't think they should be required to complete three hours a week. Being forced to volunteer defeats the whole purpose, along with those who come from low income families find it pointless when they could be doing something similar and be getting paid. High school students also have a lot on their plate to start, adding this would only create more stress.

Community service is about giving back to the community in which you live and being selfless to help the lives of others. By forcing someone to participate in community service unwillingly defeats that entire purpose. If someone is being forced, it often doesn't result in the way intended, possibly by not teaching the lesson you hoped to. Instead, it can result in the opposite outcome, in this case, having someone resent the whole idea of community service, all based on once being forced to participate against their will.

Forcing them to complete three hours a week of community service can result in them actually opposing community service, all because of once being forced. It can also seem as a waste of time to those who come from struggling families, who could be doing something similar while getting paid for it. Along with adding unnecessary stress to high school student's already stressful lives. I do believe required high school students to complete some community service is a good idea, I don't think it should be required by each week, and instead by month or maybe

If the opportunity to make some difference in the community presents itself, would you not have the desire to? Particularly when it concerns the wellbeing of not only adolescents, but all citizens in the community. Even if you do not have kids, all of us can relate because we were all kids once. The idea that kids under the age of eighteen ought to be free to roam the streets after 10 p.m. is faulty as it fails to protect everyone. A curfew for adolescents will bring them valuable boundaries which can transfer into other areas of their lives. Some may have no boundaries or discipline at home and at least they will learn to respect this…

In “Serve Or Fail,” Dave Eggers argues that "colleges should consider instituting a service requirement for graduation.” He claims that 4 years college are too long, student usually waste many time, and to be volunteer is a good idea to kill time better than killing time on the meaningless activity like football. Furthermore, he states giving a opportunity to college student to service is a chance to let the kid meet society earlier. He introduced a bill like more than 90000 students at 14 state run universities required to them to have 25 hour community service in one year that can create more than two million volunteer in one year, and it can provide benefit from getting involved. In addition, the author argue that the service requirement…

Have High School students really been devoting enough hard work in the years they’ve been in school or should they require even more work to accomplish in order to graduate? In the article “Volunteering to Graduate: Do We Need More Requirements?” By Miriam Dodge, she talks about how volunteering hours is being required in some high schools in order to complete your high school requirements, but might be a requirement that shouldn’t be enforced. Should the United States require all adults to perform one year of community service by the age of 30? I personally think this is a topic that is not at all, relevant. I believe if someone wants to lend a helping hand, then they should lend a helping hand. If you don't prefer to do this kind of community service, the government shouldn't force you to do so. There would be a lot of change in how community service is done today if the government required at least one year to be served by the age of 30.…

Having students just graduate from high school and then directly go and do mandatory service shouldn't be allowed in the U.S. I believe. It isn't fair to the people, it takes away their freedom and free will. It's also putting people in danger, the military is a very dangerous place and it would be putting people at risk, and possibly even death which is why mandatory civil service should not be allowed. Did you know that more than 40,000 people were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan according to the Pentagon, the military is a very dangerous place and the civil service would be putting people at risk for injury or even death. And, those people who were injured were prepared and trained for the military, imagine how many people would be wounded…

Why does the word mandatory is so controversial? The word mandatory might cause disagreement among persons, though, it might actually not be a terrible idea when it comes to public service. In this particular scenario, civic service does not necessarily signify military service, for example, it could suggest activities such as tutoring and mentoring, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, manage or operate after-school programs, and help communities to respond to accidental or natural disasters. There has been some proposal to implement a plan to encourage young adults to become involved in community service. For instance, a ten-point plan for creating a universal national service, and the government buying a “baby bound” for every American newborn, maturing to around nineteen thousand dollars by the time the baby reached young adulthood. The only requirement in this specific idea is one year of dedicated national service. Another example is a proposed bill in congress called the GIVE Act that would basically expand national services programs such as AmeriCorps from a current seventy-five thousand participants to a two hundred fifty thousand volunteers. While this proposal does not make national service obligatory, it ensure that people…

Offences that are defined as Minor Non-Violent Offences are those that are against the law but are not usually viewed as serious enough to be taken to the court if done once or twice (Notton, 2010). An example of non violent offence is burglary or motor vehicle theft. Community Service is an alternative of imprisonment imposed by the Court for minor non violent crimes. Community service is an unpaid work for the criminal so that he can repay the debt to the society for committing the offense (An tSeirbhis Phromhaidh The Probation Service, n.d.). Community service can also be a job for which any particular individual can volunteer for. An example of a community service is cleaning up the environment. Giving community service sentences instead of imprisonment for minor non-violent crimes would be good for the society in the long run because the criminal will get a second chance in life, it will reduce the burden on the prison system and society will benefit from community service. However individuals may take advantage of the system by taking too long to complete their community service work, although people might try to take advantage, if the work is done slowly then the criminals will be severely punished.…

It should be mandatory for teens to go into any branch of the military for at least two years. Volunteer military was born.
