In the opening Roosevelt stresses that we are a strong, powerful country and he then goes on to talk about things foreign and domestic. When he is talking of other countries, he takes two different approaches. First, he makes the point that we have are a great nation with responsibilities and that with any other country, we need a “sincere friendship” in our actions, not just in our words. He continues that we want peace but “peace of justice” and that no “weak nation that acts justly” should fear us but also no strong power should be able to single us out “for aggression”. Roosevelt then goes back to how important the relationship we have with our own neighbors is in order to grow in wealth and power. He accepts the fact that with power danger comes and that we will face more challenges than those before us because modern life keeps advancing and with advances come new obstacles. This goes along with why he states, “There is no good reason why we should fear the future, but there is every reason why we should face it seriously, neither hiding from ourselves the gravity of the problems before us nor fearing to approach these problems with the unbending, unflinching purpose to solve them aright,” and this shows that his attitude on the manner is that we should be excited but prepared. He also states that “Our fore fathers faced certain perils which we have…

Dangerous, disconnected, and non-decorus is what the United States has become since the election of Donald Trump. Distance between the U.S. and other neighboring or allied countries, has become further apart because of Trump. Near the beginning of Trump’s presidency, he defined his ideals and cleansed out the White house to make better decisions for the country, but there are very little better decisions. He has made incorrect choices to avoid problems, he has not looked back on what has happened to determine what will, and worst of all, he has threatened other countries with military force. That is why in this day and age, the United States of America is no longer secure because of weaker national bonds, greater threat of nuclear war, and…

Obama’s use of diction that included himself under the umbrella of the American public conveyed a sense of an all-inclusive and united America. President Obama consistently says “our” and “we” throughout his speech while referring to America. For example, he writes “we reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country” (Obama). In doing so, President Obama is presenting America as one. This diction allowed Obama to both present a strong and unified America to the rest of the world, and urge the American people to work together and support each…

Donald Trump was elected on November 8th, 2016 and became the 45th president of the United States on January 20, 2017. The President’s speech was unlike any other, he gave a very populist message that was an influence on the campaign trail, as well. President Trump starts off his speech stressing the importance of joining “in a great national effort to rebuild our country” and then slowly moves on to basically subtweeting the last presidency. He states that DC has “reaped the rewards of the government” while the people do not receive any of it. He focuses on the problems of our nation but gives us no means to fix it; the promises made during his campaigns, such as the wall and the banning of Muslims, were nonexistent from his speech.…

“America First.” This is Donald Trump’s expectation for future US international policies. In the recent interview with the New York Times, Trump referred to “America First” to be very modern, despite its appearance during the non-intervention movement in the US during World War II (Cole). Trump claimed that his is very different, defining it as “we are going to take care of this country [the United States of America] first before we worry about everybody else in the world.” Trump suggested that many US allies are simply parasites, draining this country resources without proper repayment. Furthermore, Trump asserted that problems within our border make us unfit to be a worldly influential figure.…
