As Europeans came to economically dominate Atlantic trade, their influence over social customs expanded. As Europeans also benefited from the expansion of economic activities into the Americas, trade and conquest also brought about social changes. He followed his dreams and opened not only his own boxing gym but also an outdoor ice hockey rink. He may have retired from the fighting, but he still holds on to his memories. He ended his career with 38 wins (27 knockouts and 11 decisions) and 13 losses (1 eye-stoppage and 12 decisions.) He now works to help others start their own boxing careers. He likes to remind them that the key to success is long, hard practices and a heart to do more. He likes to remind the new kids of this: “I never lost a fight because I wasn’t in shape or because I wasn’t ready. I lost because I was either beaten by a man better than me or, it wasn’t my night.” Ward was never what you would call a sore loser. He feels this is another important lesson for the up and coming fighters. Losing can be just as valuable as winning. When he lost a match he wouldn’t shut everyone out, sit around pouting, or blame others for it. Instead he took the loss as a personal challenge. He would rewatch the fight and focus on where he fell short. He would analyze ways to do things better. He would then return to the gym to practice longer and harder. He readily admits to making many mistakes, both in and out of the ring. However he very rarely made the same mistake twice, and to this he credits a portion of his…

In Mark 8:36 it says “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Gain appears 29 times in scripture, 13 times in the Old Testament and 16 times in the New. According to Merriam – Webster’s dictionary gain means “resource or advantage acquired or increased, an increase in amount.” Gain is term used commonly in our day and age, people who have big business, even those who work for others. Gain is a business term. The writer of the gospels in the book of mark, was trying to let us know that it would be worthless, or will not profit anything if the gainer, gains everything but he/she is lost. Two verses earlier, Jesus told the people that “whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” He then continues and say “for whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.”…

The society has set standards of what beauty should look like, whether it is through social media or advertising. There are different ways of defining perfection. However, perfection is hard to obtain because no one is perfect. There are some people who strive for perfection to overcome their insecurities and lack of self-esteem. According to Ursula Le Guin, she states “There are a whole lot of ways to be perfect, and not one of them is attained through punishment.” Although various people believe that physical perfection is not attained through punishment, Guin’s claim is disagreeable because one can gain a sense of satisfaction of accomplishing physical perfection, can gain approval from others, and can build up self-esteem.…
