My current state of leadership has many benefits and draw backs. I was put into the compete category of the Competing Values Assessment. This means I am a competitive, decisive and goal oriented leader. If I can fix or work on some of the negatives of my current completive category, I will become a better leader. Some of the positives include being a competitive individual, having a decisive personality and setting goals and achieving said goals. I tend to stay focused on the goal at hand and want to a finish it in a fast manner. My draw backs in my current leadership assessment are not being focused on procedures of the work I am completing, organizing my thoughts, and a lack of innovation and creativity. According to Janda (1960), leadership is a term defined as a scientific discipline of power relationships where group members believe that other members of their group has the right to prescribe a particular behavior to others (Janda, 1960, p. 345-346). However, leadership is the consequence of the interaction of interpersonal relationships between members of a group that obey willingly and not forced to do so under pressure (Ivanova, Zivkovic, & Ivanov, 2011, p. 12756). Despite the contrary, most definitions of leadership differ in many respects; most reflect the assumption of a process that intentionally influences the guidance, facilitation and structured relationships of people in groups or organizations. In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…
