DVD Groups In Action Essay

The DVD Groups in Action, provide great educational insight about the initial stage of a group. It was interesting to see how in the first stage the participants talk about their uncertainties and the anxiety level they struggle with before attending a group session. The first stage entails the orientation and exploration phases. These two phases are only going to be successful pending on the leader’s ability to establish trust within the group. The leaders are responsible to establish structure and to models trust. Following a structure plan allows the leader to effectively communicate to the participants the expectations and purpose of the group.
Furthermore, the DVD Groups in Action, demonstrated that the participants can develop trust by how the leader manages the group’s uncertainties and reluctances. A group that I could see myself leading is a counseling or therapy group that helps female adolescents with low self-esteem. There are many factors that can contribute to the low self-esteem of an individual. Some of those factors may include disapproval of parents, bullying, trauma, academic challenges and social media among others.
I will first facilitate the introduction process where all participants can get to know about each other and build bridges. Also, I will develop a therapeutic alliance with the participants by imparting optimism, centering on attainable goals, encouraging on out-of-session transformational opportunities, adhering to a concrete and clear plan, communicating clear expectations and purpose, confidentiality, and lastly, following up to show genuine interest in the progress and the participant well-being. Being able to develop a rapport with the participants will provide a sense of security where they all can be open and trustworthy of the overall purpose that is being work on collectively in the
