For many years, people have debated gun control. Many people think that “more guns, fewer shootings” is the answer to the debate about gun control. Some say gun incidents are decreasing. However, people have failed to notice that guns are still the reason for numerous amounts of death. Once we understand that firearms are one of the main causes of mass shootings, we’ll begin to see that the answer to the problem is gun control. It’s best to increase the rules and regulations regarding guns to decrease the number of mass shootings.

However, there are ways around this. We can pass laws affecting how guns can be acquired. It was noted that “criminal histories and documented mental health problems did not prevent at least eight of the gunmen in 14 recent mass shootings from obtaining their weapons after federal background checks led to approval of the purchases of the guns used” (Buchanan et al). If that number would have been raised, a large number of deaths could’ve been prevented. In a speech made shortly after the Umpqua Community College shooting Obama stated, that our prayers and thoughts only aren’t enough to stop the number of mass shootings and the number of fatalities. At this point in time, with gun incidents increasing, to me gun control is our only option, but some say gun control isn’t needed. Unfortunately, the United States as a whole has a split decision. Most people continue to believe that “more guns, fewer shootings” is the answer, and that firearm related incidents are decreasing as time goes on. These people are wrong.
