My brother was very ill as a child and spent a great deal of time at the hospital with other sick children. After seeing the immediate need for blood donations, I decided to coordinate a blood drive in my community during a critical need period. I organized, recruited for, and oversaw two separate blood drives in my first year alone. And at each blood drive, I far exceeded the expectations set by my Red Cross liaison. I recruited 32 new blood donors, and I gave blood myself. Over 70 donations were collected, potentially saving 210 lives. I continue to host blood drives because I understand the necessity for blood products. I cannot think of a more important accomplishment than helping to save lives.

The team performs at halftime during varsity basketball games using sounds created from clapping and stopping. As Senior Captain, it became my responsibility to provide artistic direction when designing routines. While music is not traditionally incorporated into step routines, I felt it would add variety. I compiled the perfect song selection and edited it to coordinate with a new routine. After a few initial demonstrations, the team began to practice with music; to my surprise, it was like a foreign language to several members. I began working with the team in selecting new music and choreographing a new routine. In the end, the team comprehended the new song selection more fluidly and performed seamlessly. More importantly, there was a heightened sense of enthusiasm within the team, which unleashed previously unseen creativity and innovation beyond my initial
