Personal Statement: My Greatest Accomplishments
My best accomplishments still lay ahead of me, but I am proud of everything I have achieved up until this point. I have accomplished a lot! I am the oldest child in a small family, I grew up with a single mother and a younger brother in less-than-ideal conditions. We were poor, and
I suffered abuse from someone I should have been able to trust as a result of our vulnerability. To this day, I suffer from PTSD and it has been a struggle to work full time and go to school at the same time—but I have done it, and I have done it well! I have an excellent GPA of 3.92, and I fully intend to bring it up even higher as I try to achieve my dreams. My short-term goal is to attend
Columbia Law School, my long-term one is to become a judge.

I love my job because it’s in my field—Law, and it also helps a lot of people every day. Everything I am learning today both professionally and academically will serve me well in the future. I am studying English at UAA because strong writing and critical thinking skills are extremely necessary in the legal field, but also because I enjoy English and have a natural knack for it.

I also dabble (quite passionately) in art, including graphic design and photography. I freelance on the rare occasion that I have the time, sometimes offering my services to businesses and causes that I believe in for free. Art is important because it helps train you to think outside of the box and look at the world in fresh, new ways. That is critical for anyone, in any field! As a result of my computer graphic skills, I also have a solid grasp of computer skills and even can create and edit webpages. I have even used my computer skills to build a crowdfunding campaign for a friend in need who felt overwhelmed trying to make one on their own. In this day and age, it’s more important than ever to have a strong grasp of technology especially as the world grows increasingly digital in every facet of

The law and its ever-changing characteristics intrigued me at a very early age. Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer. My goal of becoming a lawyer was a bit impractical due to my procrastination after high school graduation and because of my past financial situation. Not knowing what to do then, led me to join the Navy. The Navy afforded me the opportunity to go to school while working and it also allowed me to change jobs so that I can choose something closely related to my goal of becoming an attorney. That’s when I became a Paralegal, or “Legalman” as the Navy calls it.…

All my goals lead into each other helping me grow and develop into a better person that can now be ready for change. By having the right mindset and setting out to do the goals I said I would I have overcome so much in such a little amount of time. Just like how William Pollard said it best in his quote that I had quoted earlier in my paper about those who are not ready to make that change will be left behind and I for sure do not want to be left…

I, Lizbeth De La Cruz will be going to college. I have made this decision because I believe that getting a higher education opens up your mind a lot more. Everything you learn in elementary, high school, and college contradicts each other. I want to learn more, open my mind and soul to all this higher power/knowledge that I yet have to learn. I want to go to California State University Stanislaus. I will start small by going to the library there, reading and writing as much as I possibly can to expand my horizons by self educating first. I would like to take a philosophy class and history class just for the fun of it. My major will be in chemistry because I would like to become a chemistry teacher.…

There are many accomplishments in my life of which I am proud, however there are two for which I am especially proud. Those being, having the opportunity to play varsity shortstop in high school, and having good enough grades to be nominated for, and to be admitted into, the National Honor Society. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…

Every day I wake up determined to do more than I did the day before. My past achievements include gaining leadership skills, being on a varsity sport, and learning outside of school. I have been in tennis for eight years and varsity for three years, where I have received two awards for most improved player. I was accepted into the program “Trees for Tomorrow” where I learned how to manage and use natural resources in a classroom and in field studies. I participated in a new sport, a cross country ski team, where it taught me skills and strengthened my mind set about myself. My early years of high school, I was part of the backstage crew for a play, performed at my high school. The theatrical plays were terrible, under equipped, with barely…

I have chosen to follow my passion and pursue a degree in the field of law. I would like to either practice as a criminal defense lawyer or a family law attorney. Once I am more experienced in my field, I would like to open my own law firm which would practice multiple types of law or I would like to become a judge within my community. This path was inspired by the Independence Youth Court, a diversion court which I volunteer with. As a volunteer for the past…

However, I am currently taking Eight Skill of the Effective Legal Studies and Paralegal Professional courses for my first term. These courses have helped me with the skills and tools I will need to better understand how the law works and how to address my everyday situations with my career job. My first goal was to obtain my general Equivalency Diploma (GED) with the intentions of later attending college. It took me longer to achieve my goals, since I have had many personal obstacles in my way. At the age of 17, I became a married teenage single mother of a one month old baby. I did not have much of a family so I had to take care of my child on my own. My family was not the type to go to for help because they would take from someone leaving them helpless. Looking in the mirror one day after being knocked down for not cooking dinner, made me look into my soul through my eyes; I decided enduring a life with so much Domestic Violence that it was not for me.…
