Introduction

Tourism is one of the world’s fastest growing industries and is major source of income for many countries. Being a people oriented industry, tourism also provides many jobs which have helped revitalize local economies. However, like other forms of development, tourism can also cause its share of problems such as social dislocation, loss of cultural heritage, economic dependence and ecological degradation. Learning about the impacts of tourism has led to many people to seek more responsible holidays. McCool and Moisey (2001) reinforce this by saying “to achieve sustainable development, communities must find a delicate balance between conflicting economic environmental, and social equity objectives.

Amendments on the Proposal:
Page.S. (1995, p.170) explains that tourism planning at the local level (the city level), is a process with a number of clear stages. It considers social, economic and environmental issues in a spatial context (i.e. the city) and has regard to development, conservation, land use, the tourism industry and the local business environment and economy. These factors were taken into consideration after a field trip to Vilnius and, therefore, Remit 2 will be based on the proposal as shown on the table below:

PEST Analysis:
Mullins. L.J (1999, pp.101-102) explains that one popular technique for analyzing the general environment is a PEST analysis – this is, Political, Economic, Socio-cultural and Technological influences. These factors can affect the environment where the River Cruise will perform, therefore, It is important to keep track on them but acknowledging that these it is out of the control of any organisation.
