Eagle Scout Life Purpose
Life Purpose

Nearing the end of my road to the Eagle Scout award I am finding that my purpose in life is becoming more clear. Through scouts and the other activities that I have surrounded myself with, I have come to realize that I want to be a leader. In the leadership positions I have held I have picked up so many skills that I am going to use in my life. I don’t just want to be one type of leader though. I would like to be a leader in the workplace, morally, and within my family. It only seems right to keep my life going in that direction. I plan on going to college this summer to study public relations and marketing as USF or FSU. Beyond that I’d then like to move out of Florida for my masters and get a job in a city like Chicago. Ideally I would like to have a job within a magazine or a music agency searching for ways to sell certain brands or ideas, and finding ways to promote those things. Something very important to me in my life is service and that is why throughout my life I also plan to remain involved in the act of helping others in need. Throughout high school I have belonged to a youth group that’s has gone a mission trip every summer, and on these trips I have had some of the most meaningful experiences of my life which have really made me realize how good my life is, and how important it is to share your talents, abilities, and time with others who may not be as fortunate as yourself. While I may sound very certain of myself and the upcoming future, I am very open to new possibilities and options that may come my way. So whether I stick to the plan I have made myself of end up somewhere completely different in life, I will use the talents and skills I have gained from scouts to be

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

Ever since I was young, I was always interested in the idea of helping people other than myself. I never knew the actual meaning of truly helping another person until October, 2010, my freshman year. My resolve for helping others sparked into a flame when I visited a church in San Jose where I experienced something that would completely change my life. At this church, there was an organization called Milal that helps take care of people with disabilities. It was in that place that I was able to learn the true meaning of helping others.…

The utmost important aspect of a leader is their ultimate goal, which raises a question. What is my goal as a leader in the various aspects of my life? The ultimate goal for myself as a leader in any group of people is to inspire those I lead. As long as I can remember service to others was always encouraged by my family and teachers. For example, I helped teachers with the intent of lightening their load of work so they can be able to go home earlier. Things like this make me proud because I am able to help others, and to bring a smile to their faces. My excuse to avoid community service was that I always thought that school was all about homework and getting good grades to be on the top 20 of your class. Truth is I have always overlooked this people thinking they were being lazy for not working, but through this community service I learned that each and everyone around the world is fighting their own battles and we all deal with them the best way we can. I am proud of myself because I went to that community service and learned about this people who I had always stereotyped by their actions, community service has encouraged me to actively listen and learn from others, to walk alongside my neighborhood and to build new…

Through our discussion of servant leadership, I found that service to others is righteous goal that equates to tremendous levels of success. In our discussion I found myself lost in an introspective mission to understand what exactly motivated me to be a high achiever. The answer was my loved one and the concept of making other peoples lives better by helping them to achieve their dreams. Monetary success is an amazing feeling, however it is minimal when compared to the feeling of seeing someone that you mentor overcome challenges they thought were impossible. My participation in Student Government has taught me important leadership skills I will be able to carry with me throughout, not only my college career, but my nursing career. Sports has taught me that hard work, discipline, and teamwork will not only defeat any obstacle that comes my way, but with the help and encouragement of others, we can come together as one and get the job done. My extracurricular activities have taught me that with the aid of others anything is possible. Through my community service volunteering at a local housing company for the mentally disabled, I have seen first-hand what the impact one person can make on another’s life. While watching the interview with Professor Jeanne Enders and Carolyn McKnight, one major thing I learned is that finding one’s leadership purpose can is a harrowing journey into figuring out one’s true self. As McKnight had stated in the video, to be an effective leader one needs to be authentic, but how does one be authentic? Is it from following one’s passion? Is it from doing what feels right to one’s self? I would say yes, but today it seems increasingly hard to follow one’s passion or path that feels right. This may be due to expectations brought on by parents, teachers, peers, societies standards or one’s own culture. Listening to McKnight’s breakdown on the steps that one should take to make themselves a great and effective leader,…
