English 101 Reflection Paper
As I approach my last day of English 101, I'm reflecting on how my writing has changed throughout the semester..When I first came into English I knew that I was not good at writing, during my school years I struggle with grammar issue and sentence structure. while in English 101 ,the assignment that I struggle with the most was the first paper. I never had to compare features between a scientific and scholar article before. I was having a hard time trying to understand what my teacher want from me and how I could incorporate it into my paper . After staying and going to group session I better understand what she wants from the paper. after pre-review and redoing my whole paper, I felt that my paper was the best it could be. I did not think that I have any grammatical errors but I was so wrong. After receiving my grade paper I start to become discourage on how I was going to make it in English class. After talking to my teacher I realized in order for me to make it I need to express that I need help. My third paper was my best paper in my opinion. After realizing to grades of a c- I decided to change the person …show more content…

It is very important that you understand the assignment and know what your professor is asking you do to. Another helpful advice I will give to someone is to read the reading that Mrs.Lui gives you. Sometimes you might think that they are long and not useful to your learning but they will help you when it times for you to cite reading in your paper. Also, if you do not understand what the reading is talking about make sure to ask your teacher and listen to the class discussion when the class is going over the reads. My last advice for an income freshman is to pre-planned your paper because you do not want to wait to the last minute trying to come up with something quick and not be fully prepared when it’s time for peer

What is death penalty? Death penalty is when a state or the government issues the punishment of execution to some one who has committed a crime. It has always been one of the most highly debated issues in the United States. Many Americans are against the capital punishment or commonly knows as the death penalty because they fear its too expensive or there are religious reasons to oppose the death penalty or some other reasons. But my point of view is just like the bible and what it says "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" meaning if you killed some body you ought to be killed also. Most people aren't worried about the life after committing crimes because they know that the laws aren't strict enough to make them to stop committing crimes. To these people, laws don't hold them back from doing what they want to do. Capital punishment is mainly used for murderers and other serious criminals dangerous to our society. People who oppose the capital punishment clearly don't feel the pain and the trouble the victims and their families has gone through. So, is capital punishment necessary? Yes, capital punishment deters crime and gives closure to families of the victim.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

Nursing has been given the idea that a lot of writing is not needed after nursing school, but that assumption is incorrect. Nurses have a lot of daily task, many of them need good writing and comprehension skills which can be developed in English 101 and English 102 classes. Core classes in general will help and the foundations that are taught in those two classes can help make one successful in any career, nursing included. Nursing needs writing in these tasks: creating a daily plan for the patient, writing prescriptions (depending on which position of a nurse), creating a plan for the patient after being discharged, and for communication through emails. With the help received in English 101 and the help I will be receiving in English 102…

My writing process has greatly changed throughout the course of this class. Starting at the beginning in August, I came into class rather cocky. I did not take the time to go over all of Dr. Trollinger’s comments on my rough draft and make multiple drafts. I was a victim of extreme procrastination. I had always excelled as an English / Rhetoric student in high school so I just assumed it would be a breeze. This was not the case. I completely and totally tanked the first paper. Because of this, I decided to greatly alter my writing process. This decision extremely benefited my future papers. I, now, take time to go over each and every draft, marking my mistakes as I go. I start papers rather early so I can take the paper piece by piece, reworking as I go. On each draft, Dr. T turns back, I print them out and write out what I need and don’t need to do. This has…

Our first assigned essay was to analyze class readings and add our personal experiences to agree or disagree with the ideas presented. I really enjoyed writing essay-one the first time around and also enjoyed revising it for my final project with the knowledge gained from my first semester in English 101. Essay-one included my personal experiences, anecdotes of authors from class readings, and gave me a chance to write about something deep within my inner self. It being essay-one, I had and knew I had trouble developing PIE paragraphs with strong topic sentences. After revising the first topic sentences in my paragraphs to ensure I had been including all aspects of the PIE paragraphs, point illustration and explanation, I began to construct paragraphs that were full of detail and in coherence with the rest of my essay.…

The next day was my first day of classes, I was so afraid of being in class and answering questions I didn’t understand about myself. That was the hardest day for me in the United States. I have started feeling normal after few classes in school. My teacher for writing and grammar was a wonderful teacher; she helped me a lot in my whole essays. I had an “F” in my first essay, grammar mistakes took the first place in my essay, and thinking in my first language was the second problem in the essay. When I used to write in Arabic in high school, the teacher used to focus on the general topics without caring about any details, It was like fast-writing in English. I started getting better every other essay I wrote by the help of my teacher and the practice everyday. My practices helped me a lot to be more detailed in the body paragraphs and…

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was figuring out a way to grade the final speech. We researched other lesson plans and rubrics and finally put together a system we believe will work. The letters written will be only a small percentage of the project’s final grade because we want the focus to fall on the speech presentation. Many points will be given for this speech with much of the criteria involving average speech structure, such as having an intro, eye contact, body language, conclusion, and visual aids. The primary focus of the speech is to share the information the student learned about a culture, so the main grading points cover the content and clarity of the speech. As long as it is easy to follow and other students learn from it, we will have accomplished our goal.…
