Muslim immigration to America has been occurring for decades, and is not a new thing. However, throughout history the U.S. government has had trouble creating a sensible Muslim immigration policy. Currently, president Trump—a man with bold and controversial policies--has enforced a temporary ban on Muslims until the American government can create a valid immigration policy. American people are in turmoil while deciding whether or not they should allow the U.S. government to put restrictions on Muslim Immigration. Some Americans are concerned that Muslim immigration will jeopardize America's security, while others feel it is America's duty to be compassionate and welcome immigrants.
In the editorial "Trumps Muslim Immigration Ban Should Touch Off a Badly Needed Discussion" published by The National Review, Andrew McCarthy's thesis is that if we continue treating Islam as if it were solely a religion, "we will never have a sensible immigration policy". In Muslim countries there is no separation of church and state, like there is in the US government. I agree with McCarthy's point, furthermore, even the Muslims who loosely interpret the Quran and are willing to assimilate into American government, still come from a society where women are not equal to men. Even if pro-Western Muslims are willing to assimilate into American society, they come from a place where women are treated much less than the way women are treated in America. If a large population of Muslims are treating women as if they are not equals, it could be detrimental to the US's society and all of our progress in furthering women's
