A research done by University of Sydney estimated that there about 270,000,000 guns owned by citizens in the US. That is 85 guns per 100 people and that is just counting legally purchased guns. The Second Amendment gives U.S. citizens the right to bear arms and right now, there are not many regulations for guns. The National Firearms Act of 1934 restricts civilians from owning powerful arms like automatic weapons, short-barreled shotguns, hand grenades and others. They say that getting them off the hands of the people will reduce the number of gun-related incidents. They also say that a lot of guns in the hand of the people may lead to more suicides and to children accidentally playing and firing guns, and therefore guns should be used only by the police and the military. They support those claims with some studies that show a correlation between high rate of private gun ownership and high number of gun incidents, and the most important of those would be the one done by the American Journal of Medicine.
