If the wall gets built, more people will protest. For example, in the article by The Week, the Sheriff of Santa Cruz County in Arizona states that ‘You hear it in the cafes, in the restaurants, everywhere. People are scared,’ referencing the wall. There are thousands of people worried about the wall and its construction, and if it starts, more people will be afraid. Furthermore, people will not want it to happen, increasing the already present protests against the wall. If the wall is started, there will be increased protests and increased hate and anger in the country, making the nation as a whole less secure and safe.
Another reason why the wall will make America less secure is the fact that it will harm the economy and spend billions of …show more content…
dollars that does not need to be spent as well as having an increase of people coming to the U.S. In the article by the Irish Independent, the wall would cost up to 21.6 billion dollars to make and it would take about 3 years to complete. The time it would take and the cost of the project just seems like it should not happen. To further elaborate, with the wall taking 3 years to complete, there might be an increase of people wanting to come over. Unfortunately, not all of them can afford to come here legally. The best option that they have for a better life is to come here illegally, but even then they might be deported back to where they want to escape from. In short, the cost and the time it would take would not benefit our country in any way.
The final reason why the U.S.-Mexican border should not be a wall is because there will be an increase of hate and distrust toward our President, even if they do not live in the United States.
In the article written by the New Delhi Times, Enrique Peña Nieto, the President of Mexico, states “‘I regret and condemn the United States’ decision to continue with the construction of a wall that, for years now, far from uniting us, divides us.’” The Trump wall will have more people dislike the connection between the United States and Mexico, as people want them to be at peace with each other. This disliking of the action that our President wants to take will increase anger and rage within and outside the United States, causing more protests and hate speech. A world full of hate is not a world that anyone wants to live in, which is why I believe the wall will decrease our safety in the
country.
In conclusion, I think that the U.S.-Mexico wall should not be built, as it will not make America more secure. If the wall is to be built, it will increase protests, increase the amount of people who want to come here through forceful ways, and increase distrust and doubt for our President. These reasons are very present now, and as time gets closer to the construction, the more these problems will become reality. As a nation, we need to tell our President that the solution to this problem will not work, and we need to find a different one, even if it takes more time.
