I believe grades aren’t the only entity that makes someone who they are. Students have a lot of qualifications that can’t be expressed through one application. Some circumstances or qualifications that are not reflected in my application are unique and make me who I am. For one, my background is much altered from your average American student, the activity’s I part takes in are not what your average teenager might do just for fun, the words my friends used to describe me are very accurate traits.
I am a 18 year old girl who was born December 2nd 1997 in Cairo Egypt. My father AJ Ajwain and my mother Abuk Ajak were both studying in Egypt when they had my brother and I. Both my parents are from South Sudan and are part of …show more content…
the Shilluk tribe located in the upper Nile region. When I was about 6months old my parents decided to move my brother Tim (who is 2 years older) and me to the United States of America so we could live the American Dream. We lived in Arlington for about 6 years, then we moved to Burke and that’s where I started my studies as a Fairfax County School Student.
Something that I am so proud about is my Help the Homeless drive that a team of friends and I started.
My idea for the Homeless drive started off by scrolling through Facebook and reading that the DC Metropolitan area has the 5th highest homeless population in the United States. I at that period being a 15year old girl with no job and very little money supposed What if my friends and I put some money together and buy stuff to give to the homeless? Homeless people really hit me hard because I feel like people always take their life for granted. There is a homeless person stereotype that all homeless people are lazy, rude, and only want money for drugs. That stereotype is wrong. Some homeless people are unable to work because of their disabilities, they have been neglected, or maybe even they’re veterans and went out to war and didn’t have somewhere to come back to. For my Help the Homeless drive my friends and I would go to local community centers and speak to the children. After our presentation we would give the children a worksheet and a flyer to take home to their parents, then set up a box in their community center, come back two weeks later, and donate what they brought into homeless people/shelters. The joy on their faces makes me want to continue doing this for as long as I
live. The last thing I want to share with you that my application can’t express is what people who know me best think about me. I am not one to really care about others opinions when it comes to their input on my personality, but after asking a couple friends I would like to share. A lot of my friends would describe me as caring, loyal, and brave. Caring because I always put others before me and enjoy making others happy. Loyal because I am that friend that anyone and everyone comes to when they just need someone to listen to them or if they have a problem with something. I know how to keep a secret and am told I always say the right things. Last but not least brave. I am a very brave person, I will stand up for what I believe in, even if it means getting bashed. If I see something I don’t like or isn’t right, I will make sure my opinion is heard. Those are just a few aspects about me that can’t be expressed through my GPA or my grades. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
