There are 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants just in America alone, along with 8,000 KFC’s in 80 countries. The biggest disadvantage is the tremendous effect on one’s health. In this article Debopriya talks about how in the fast food industries use a lot of sugars, salts, oil, fried meat, cheese, mayonnaise, and clearly they use calories. It may contain harmful bacteria that can make someone really sick. Most Americans consume more calories than that use and that contributes to complications such as cardiovascular disease and other heart diseases. When you fry food it destroys most of the essential nutrients from the food. She also talks about how it can split families apart; she states that since the fast food industry started becoming popular many individuals started going to eat there instead of the traditional family dinner. It can also be very expensive, although it is cheap if you go by yourself it isn’t the same as if you buy it in bulk; It can be a quite an expensive affair. She mentions that people who live within walking distance from a fast food joint are 13% higher risk of suffering from stroke than those who live a considerable distance away. Obesity is a huge problem in America; a bond is formed between fast food and obesity in children. Many problems that you can receive from obesity is high blood pressure and disease of the joints. Especially children who think a fast food joint is a great place to hang out with friends. Fast food was invented for the modern times so the working man can get a quick bite to eat. We can definitely minimize the drawback of fast food by ordering something that doesn’t have that many calories and sodium.

Obesity means having too much body fat. Being overweight simply means you weigh too much. Fast food has a lot of sugar and calories in it so it gives you a greater chance to gain weight. Fast food changes people’s diets, eating habits and people who consume fast foods are most likely not to eat healthy such as fruits, vegetables, milk etc. People who eat fast food have an 80% chance of risk of dying from a heart attack. They find that fast food has high levels of trans fat which can lead to clogged arteries and, over time, contributes to high cholesterol levels. A major problem is diabetes; some people look for an inexpensive meal a little bit too much and they get diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. A peptic ulcer is a gastrointestinal tract that is usually acidic and thus extremely painful. Many of the fast foods that can give you the peptic ulcer are pizza, chips, and salted snacks. Fast foods can also bring a family apart; fast food does not provide an opportunity for members to eat and set in one place because of the uprise of the fast food industry. A healthy person eats at a scheduled time because they need to make the food as for someone who goes to a fast food joint does not because they can get their food fast. Certain foods and drinks act as powerful stimulants to the body and hence are a direct cause of stress.

Most people are aware that fast food isn’t a really healthy choice. Fast food is high in fats, salt, sugar, and is low in fruits, vegetables and fiber. Fast food can negatively affect you physically and emotionally. Consuming excess calories puts you at risk of weight gain and weight-related health conditions. The average fast food lunch in New York totaled 827 calories (2007 statistics). The general adult woman usually needs to consume 1,600 to 2,400 calories a day. As for a man, they need anywhere from 2,000 calories to 3,000 calories a day. Fast food has a really influenced the growing rate of obesity in America. Eating a lot of fast food in a short period of time increases risk of type 2 diabetes, according to an article posted on January 2005 “Lancet” article. Risks are hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease which are also linked to insulin resistance. Eating fast food often will have an adverse effect on your blood vessels; three to five hours after eating a high-fat meal, the blood vessels function abnormally. For someone with coronary disease, this could cause a heart attack or stroke. People with depression tend to look at fast food to get away from their problems. People who eat fast food on a daily basis are 51% more likely to get diagnosed with depression. Some researchers suggest that fast food may be addictive to some people and they are continuing to do further research as stated in a September 2011 article “Current Drug Abuse Reviews.”
