Favorite Song
When asked to write an essay about my favorite song, I thought this would be easy. After several days of contemplation, I decided this was not going to be as easy as I thought. However, I did manage and decided that “Grown Men Don’t Cry” by Tim McGraw had to be my favorite. I enjoy this song for many reasons; a few being the artist, it’s message, and the songs tempo.

Tim McGraw has had a decade long hot-streak that contains nineteen number one singles, six multi-platinum albums, sales over 25 million albums and an enduring status as country music’s most popular and respected artist. Tim taught himself how to play guitar and began singing solo in nightclubs around his college, Northeast Louisiana University. He then deci

This song has a medium tempo. I enjoy songs with such a tempo because it gives me time to reflect on exactly what the singer is saying. When songs are too slow they tend to lose a listener because the song drags on. When songs are too fast they tend to lose listeners because it’s too hard to keep up with what the singer is saying. Songs with a medium tempo are easier to enjoy. How often have you been listening to a song and after the first few lines, had to change the station because you can’t understand a word they have said?

From the first time I heard this song, I felt that it had an amazing message. We often expect men to hide their true feelings. However, there are times in a mans life that he needs to let them all out.

It’s a concept that many of us can relate to; when we’re in need of love and desperately fighting to keep it around, no matter the consequences. It can be painful, but at the same time, it gives us something to fight for. The lyrics match that dark emotion portrayed in the instrumentation; it forces me to feel every word. With the way she projects her vocals, it’s very clear that she can feel everything too, which is an admirable quality in an artist. Considering Chappell Roan is a brand new artist, there isn’t much being written about her online. Even so, I think it’s safe to say that I’ve stumbled upon something truly amazing. So much emotion was poured into this song; everything from her vocals to the instrumentation. She explains (Interview Magazine, 2017), “When I sing, I want people to feel every emotion. I hope they get a better understanding of me as a human being and not just as a singer. I want [you] to know who I am. All of my songs come directly from my personal experiences. “Good Hurt” happens to come from a time when I was in a relationship, but wanted a different person who was toxic for me. The song is about me wanting something that I know is not good for…

A theme song that I chose for myself was Some Things Never Change by Foesum. Whenever I play this song I usually feel two emotions: joy and sadness. The sadness comes from not being able to see friends from high school as much as I was used to. The joy comes from knowing although we do not see each other as much we will always be there for each other. This song was a part of my life growing up in high school, all my friends listened to the same genre of music called G-Funk. Whenever this song comes up on my music player I remember the good times I had with my friends. The lyrics in the chorus go: Some things never change, ain't it strange? How things just remain the same. The meaning behind this chorus is that no matter where life takes you, there are some things about that will never change about yourself. My favorite verse comes in the beginning and it was by MNMsta and it goes:…

This song is part of my life soundtrack because it reminds me of my great grandma. My great grandma passed away when I was in 5th grade and this song has always reminded me of her. We were extremely close, she was my best friend, and whenever I hear this song it brings back memories of when I was at her house or just spending time with her. My favorite part of this song is the chorus. When I was younger I used to listen to this song after she passed away because it reminded me that I would see her again someday.…
