Monday, 9/31: Attended my field seminar which was led by Dr. Dotin, she gave us a rundown of the expectations and requirements of our field practice. We had a special quest from the Core program that deals with mental health issues among teens in Delaware, which really gave me an insight on providing care for mental health. Other students were given the opportunity to meet and interact with their assign liaisons. We had few students among us who were already in the master program who shared some common field experienced. The program really gave us foundation has a guidance to our field

Last year, I has Mrs. Sulzbach for English 9 Honors and my favorite thing about her class was probably the people who were in it. Most of the people in my class were very animated and talkative, so they made class discussions fun. Most of the time I find class discussions to be boring and after talking for a while, the conversation normally dies down or people are just repeating the same ideas in different wording, but that never really happened in Mrs. Sulzbach's class. Socratic Seminars were especially fun because the conversation never stopped and a lot of interesting viewpoints were brought up, even if we sometimes strayed onto the weirdest tangents.…

It’s amazing how much I’ve learned in the past eight months at Fortis Institute. It’s just so hard to believe that less than two weeks we will be done with my education. I must admit I will miss spending my time here. But most of all I will never forget the experience I received as an Intern Medical Assistant working with Patients.
Making a difference in someone’s life just fascinates me, knowing that I have the power to help someone. Working at North Belt Medical Clinic as a Medical Assistant intern is one of the greatest life experience. I will not trade it in for any other work field. Becoming an assistant also supplies knowledge of the most intimate interactions of the natural processes, giving a glimpse of processes that are not easy to understand. At this Center the patients are Diabetes related. As I spend more time as an intern at this Clinic I was inspired by Dr. Willie Harrison who helped and gave hope to many of these people, had myself raise some questions on the concepts and wonder what it would be like to be a part of the North Belt Medical team or somewhat relate to this field. I believe that Medical Assistant program classes at Fortis Institute help gave me an opportunity to pursue my passion for helping those with medical problems and let me feel at ease on the first hand training at the North Belt Medical Clinic. At the North Belt Medical Clinic I learn to Answering phones and making appointments ordering supplies, greeting patients, pulling and filing patient charts, calling in or faxing prescriptions, converting charts to electronic charting. Hopefully I can take these skills I learn and better myself in life.…

I was assigned to visit with Molly Forrest, MN, RN, LSN at North Education Center in New Hope, MN. I started to prepare for this assignment in many different ways. Molly sent an email with a few links to explore before coming to the school. Since I had no idea what the school was like I started by reading all about the school (Mgeni, n.d.). I also printed the document titled “Shadowing a PHN for a Day: Scope of Practice Observation/Interview/Analysis.” I’m glad I printed the document ahead of time because that allowed me time to read and figure out what I was suppose to asking her.…

I was able to learn about the importance of effective medical education and communication with my patients through creating nutrition materials on the different food groups and chronic ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart attacks as well as consulting with patients weekly to find out what they needed and desired to improve their health and how I could direct them to their needs. At Haven, I exchanged ideas with each of my patients on how they and their families can live healthier lives as I learned about their diverse lives and tried to make sense of it for them and others. Haven taught me how to become an effective listener, a fast learner, and an effective deliberator within a healthcare setting and serves as the foundation of those skills in my upcoming medical…

I know you have participated in Socratic Seminars in a variety of ways in your English classes. I go about it differently than you have experienced it in the past, I think. At the college level, I view the Socratic Seminar as an intellectual discussion/study group; students interacting with both the text and each other with the goal of preparing themselves for a culminating written assessment the following day.…

This week I worked with the grant writing team to source potential funding opportunities in target areas and revise draft grants before submission. In the process of sourcing, I learned how to use the subscription services FoundationSearch and RelSci. Basically, this week involved a lot of reading and judgement calls. In particular, I was sourcing in the city of Chicago; I did not know how Jewish oriented the city is before this research. Ultimately, we found our organization to be more compatible with the foundations of for-profit companies such as AT&T.…

The major accomplishment for this week was dealing with multiple students' situations comparing with the first three weeks. I felt that in most of the cases I was able to provide the more support and also building rapport and establishing trust. Also, another good experience was to learn about kids with Turrets. We heard from a teacher that she has been having difficulties with a student with Turrets, who also has ADHD and other difficulties. The rest of the students in her class were feeling that this particular student was having preferential treatment. The counselor contacted the student's parents to share that we were planning to have a class meting to educate students about Turrets and about her son's situation. His mother understood…
