Field Work Experience Essay
I engaged in some community engagements for University of Houston-Downtown; however, I really cannot not say that I have a well versed experience in community engagements because besides being a full-time student, I also work in a professional organization as a full-time employee and this is not an hourly rate kind of work that I could have made up for later. I never really have the opportunity to participate as much as I would have liked to, because I could not risk my only source of income that helps me pay for my tuitions too.
In my sophomore year, I did participate once in helping handing out the welcome back package/souvenirs to freshmen and current/returning students on the third floor of the administrative building facing the bookstore. I did a field work study/survey with UHD students in order to get their opinions what they think about communication diversity at the University of Houston-Downtown. I was in the Student Government Association (I think that I’m still part of this organization because they still send me

Before my community service with them, I visited their website, to learn about them and I was amazed with several areas of crime they deal with in terms of prevention; I was also surprised their “tip-line” (713-222-TIPS) is famously “known as a world leader in crime prevention.” This to me solidifies that they are legit, have trustworthy credibility, and have been around for so many years and are supported by well-known businesses and other organizations. After my encounter, I was and I am still glad to have been given the opportunity while taking all of these communication classes to learn and henceforth I hope to continually share their mission around my peers and community as often as

Civic engagement at Drexel hopefully entails volunteering at a local hospital in Philadelphia. I will continue my volunteering at home when I can. During my time here, I will be taking part in volunteering but not willingly contribute to the university goal to become the most civically engaged. I will not volunteer to make Drexel look better. That is not the purpose of volunteering. Drexel wants the recognizing but I want the difference the work is going to make. It would be a great goal to have for a university if it was made for the right…

For instance, in the spring 2016 semester I volunteered with the American Red Cross and I encouraged other residents to volunteer as a community service program. Another program that I executed was titled, "Can you survive?" The program took place around Halloween, so I included a mysterious theme to make it more entertaining for residents. The program consisted of deadly scenarios (i.e. the zombie apocalypse and a plane crash) to teach residents how to effectively work together. This program, and several of the other educational programs I facilitated, let residents learn in a fun and educational setting. Through these programs I developed strong and amicable relationships with residents, which helped me to better assist them when they were…

Registered Nursing requires a large base of knowledge used to assess, plan, and intervene to promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness. They are health educators and advocates for patients, families, and communities. When providing direct patient care, nurses observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress, which provides the basis for care planning and intervention. Nurses’ roles range from direct patient care and case management to establishing nursing practice standards, developing quality assurance procedures, directing complex nursing care systems, conducting clinical research, teaching in nursing programs, as well as practicing in many other invigorating settings. RN’s also develop and manage nursing care plans; instruct patients and their families in proper care; and help individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health. While state laws govern the scope of nursing practice, it is usually the patient needs that determine their daily job activities.…

Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…

I have partaken in TI@ti, sophomore year and currently, which is an organization based on increasing leaderships skills and increasing awareness against drugs and alcohol. Last year, I guided peers to make healthier life choices and to take positive risks. I stepped up when my advisors, Ms. Ramirez and Mr. Rosenfeld (at the time) needed presenters for the PTSO meetings, Saturday Academy for 7th and 8th graders, and for 600+ seniors who attended prom last school year. The Saturday Academy was a huge leadership role where I had to advise seventh and eighth graders on what to expect from high school. I volunteer at various locations such as for the 9/11 Day of Service, Jersey Cares Day, and Paterson’s Operation clean up. In all of these services, I did landscaping because I felt as if the…

From this activity I have learn that just attending university and receiving grades is not all that is required to attaining a future with a pleasant job. Volunteering and work experience are also necessary, therefore, I would consider joining a volunteer or work opportunity while attending university. The next step I am going to take toward my preferred future is to obtain a job, I will do this by applying to jobs that require communicating with people, working with children or opportunity for networking. Another step that I can take is to volunteer at my old high school, I have already worked at an elementary school, and therefore it would be nice to see if I would have a similar or dissimilar experience at the high…

When I got out of the Army I took a job as a Security Officer at the Exeter Job Corps. The Job Corps is a place run by the state where young people ages 16 to 25 can go for their High School diploma, GED and vocational training. The Jobs Corps offered competitive wages, a great benefits package and gave troubled kids a second chance at doing something with their lives. What they failed to mention was the Exeter Job Corps was one of the most haunted places in Rhode Island and one of the scariest places I have ever worked.…

By doing that I was able to meet some people and join some activities with those people, some of whom have metal and developmental disabilities. I learned how to knit wool hat and played with them. They made a lot of different sizes of hats. All of the things they make are then donated to hospitals for newborn babies. Additionally, I was also a member in Cecilia choir at the St Anne- St Joseph Hien church. I participated in the choir and all other events in the church for approximately 3 years. I learned very soon after starting my freshmen year at Hixson High School that this was a school that wants to see achievers and believers walk across the stage at graduation and enter into the world around. Through the teachers encouraging me to push myself to do the very best I could possibly due, the multiple organizations and clubs available, and this inner spark that drives me to achieve greatness, I quickly became involved around the school. I am currently the National Honor Society Secretary, Senior Council Representative, Nation Beta Club Member, Hixson Mat Cat Treasurer, and one of the founding members of Hixson Girl Talk. Without these opportunities offered, I would not have built relationships with fellow classmen, teachers, faculty and staff, and most importantly, members of the Hixson community through volunteer work, team bonding, and a shared desire to continue to improve the area.…

The years I spent in middle school and high school have opened my eyes to the field of Social Work. I volunteered whenever I got the chance. I was in Student Council and from that, I donated a lot of my time to help with that and other organizations. Throughout those years, I was rewarded my senior year with an award for the most community service hours. My father works for the Michigan State Police, and through him, I volunteered with a lot of organizations through NCRESA. Halloween Hallow, Santa’s story book, and Kids Day were all different events that I volunteered for an absolutely loved. Now, I am a junior and I have still kept busy with volunteering. My freshmen year, taking SW100, we were required to do 15 hours of community service. I volunteered my 15 hours at the Marquette Jacobetti Veterans Center. Volunteering there has very much impacted my life. Whenever I went to see the veterans I was so thankful to them. Listening to their stories has been one of my favorite volunteer memories. In fact, my older sister Jennifer and I are thinking about going and talking to the volunteer coordinator to see if we can come back and continue. Another activity is Northern’s Make a Difference Day which has always been a great experience. Seeing how grateful those who we raked yards for were was truly wonderful. I will continue with Make a Difference Day! My sophomore year, I signed up through NMU’s volunteer center…
