Formal introduction
Good afternoon. I am pleased to announce that one of our students, Marissa Kelleher, has been named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Today, I presented Marissa the Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation (and the only one at GHS!) are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). “The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,’ commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.” Please join me in congratulating Marissa on this outstanding achievement. The Friends of Gilford Football will be holding a food drive during their Homecoming game on Saturday, September 28th. Donations will benefit St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. Please bring your food goods to the game! Hello Env Club Folk,
This Thursday and Friday there will be a "Club Fair" in the PAD auditorium during lunch to promote club involvement. I need volunteers to man the table, tell people about Env Club, and encourage involvement. Also, tomorrow after school I will be updating the posters to put out in the lobby. Anyone willing to stay after school tomorrow to help is more than welcome.
