Jon Richter Memorial Scholarship Essay
William S. Burroughs once declared, “The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values” (BrainyQuote). The more one can recognize their morals, the further the individual can go in life. High school activities, community service, interests, goals, and values will be discussed for the Jon Richter Memorial Scholarship. First, high school activities will be deliberated. Throughout high school, I have been involved in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), FFA (Future Farmers of America), Floriculture, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Art Club, Homecoming Committee, and National Honors Society. Outside of high school, I have participated in 4H, Vacation Bible School, mission trips, and nursery. …show more content…
My personal interests are in the medical field, specifically Optometry. I plan on attending the University of South Dakota in the fall of 2017 and majoring in Biology. Following my four-year attendance at the University of South Dakota, I intend to go to finishing school and obtain a degree in Optometry. My personal values are keeping God and family first, having integrity, respecting others, being a responsible and trustworthy individual, having leadership, and making a positive impact in my community. Through my involvement in school activities, like FCCLA and National Honors Society, I have seen the impact that a random act of kindness can do. Making individuals feel loved and cared for is also an immense value that I hold. On the whole, personal morals are tremendously important to me and I will continuously uphold my standards. In conclusion, high school activities, community service, interests, and goals were discussed. Also, my future education and career were brought to light. I want to personally say that I am remarkably grateful for the opportunity to receive this scholarship. It will help me pursue my education and career in so many ways, such as buying books and paying for my dorm.
