Free College Admissions Essays: I Want To Become The Captain
"I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say "because of you I didn't give up."
I am wanting to be the Captain for this upcoming year. I have many things to offer to my team and of course my band family. I have been in Color guard since my freshman year and sadly this upcoming will be my last year. I have stuck with it because it's something I'm passionate about. When I first started I wasn't the strongest member on the team I was far from it. I was pushed and I wasn't used to that. One day during my first guard camp I felt like I was never going to stop being the girl whose name was constantly called out. Lady pulled me aside and assured me that even though I couldn't see it every day was an improvement. I decided from

I look at every aspect of the situation and help others see the positive as well. I never like to see people upset and I always try and help in any way I can. I will be there for them physically if they are hurt but I am also there for them emotionally. I will always put others before myself because I can't be happy knowing they're upset.

I usually wait till they calm down and talk to them later in the day and I will problem solve with them. I tell them I will help in any way possible. I have learned this year that my personality is comforting to my team. They know I am someone they can come to if they have a problem.
I understand that even if half the team is strong if they other half isn't then the team is set for failure. It's all about teamwork you have to want to become strong and not let your team down. You have to be wanting to help the team improve. Lady has always told me "We're only as strong as our weakest link." I know when I first started guard I just didn't understand the way things were explained. Because of that I am now very creative in being able to explain how to do things. Most people don't really know how to explain things other than the basic explanation. I understand that some people can't comprehend that. So I will explain in different ways and with different

I take pride in everything that I do and strive to give my all to the people who need my help, and this is the basis of my personal model of helping. I cannot give someone only part of my effort because the individual may not take me serious and not be able to use the help that I am offering. My goal in offering this help is to assist them in overcoming any negative situation they are trying to get out of. People reach out for help and when they do so they want the best help that they can find because they can seek a positive resolution. I know that circumstances in life can take a toll on a person, and these circumstances cause them to be in the situation that they are seeking help for but to change their behavior and improve themselves they need to give 100% as well as the people who are offering help to them.…

In high school, I was involved multiple clubs and groups varying from athletic, academic, and artistic. Overall, the school’s marching band color guard had the largest influence on my personal growth in during the time. At my school, all color guard members are required to complete one season of marching and playing instruments with the band before being allowed to join the guard. Therefore, it wasn’t until my sophomore year that I auditioned and was accepted into the color guard which I participated in for the rest of my high school career. Because there was no recognized team captain, all the girls were expected to step up as leaders not only for themselves but for everyone else as well.…

There are many reasons why I want to become an Auror leader, my number one reason is because I frankly feel that my experience in Ursa changed me as a person and I want to continue the personal growth that Aurora has started while helping new students experience the same growth that I did. I have always been dedicated to helping those who are younger than myself. In high school I was on the track team and one of my favorite things to do was to mentor the first year athletes. By doing this I would show my younger teammates correct technique, and how to prepare for meets physically as well as mentally. Now that I am in college I love to help kids from my highschool who are interested in Penn State. I show them around campus, and I gave them…

The Butler County Performing and Visual Arts programs our community offers has truly changed the person I am today. Through the Butler County High School Band, I have learned how to play the flute and been doing so for eight years and been able to perform in the marching band as a color guard member for four years. It truly has been such a blessing to be in such an amazing program, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities and friendships it has given me. I began playing the flute in 5th grade at Morgantown Elementary School. Never would I imagine the memories and friendships I have gained from picking up that flute when I was 10 years old.…

Almost three and a half years ago I was a new freshman cadet in NJROTC at San Ysidro High School. I started off at the bottom like any other cadet, but I was surprisingly the quiet one of all. Although I was new, I knew where I wanted to stand in the unit. I wanted to be more than what people knew me as, the quiet and shy girl who only joined the program because her brother is in it. Cadets knocked me down for months to the point where I wanted to quit and give up because I thought I lost all hope in myself. But ironically, that was the best part of all because I grew and learned from that experience, I wanted to prove all of them wrong. The first month of being in the unit, I successfully got passed through my breaking point and it greatly contributed to the person I am today.…

A team is defined by the method in which it functions, a disfunctional team can not accomplish a goal or will take more valuable time. Being able to be consisderate of others, and how they feel towards a subject is important to understand. When I am able to understand others, I can be direct, quick and productive. I try using operant conditioning in any group I partipicate, after learning of the method. It is different than using it with children, but I try to imagine how to use it with adults. When I notice someone partipicating, expressign their thoughts, I try to achwoldge their efforts. After awhile the teammate now believes the behavior is wanted and keeps on partificating. While being considerate, and encouraging I can set the tone for…

Nonetheless, through the challenges, I discovered strengths in myself. I have always been mainly a follower because I am easy to get along with. At times this quality has hurt me, but during my time at the camp I was transformed into a leader. The group of volunteers I was working with were not as motivated or passionate as they could have been. I could not do all the work myself, so I took my stand as a leader and motivated the dietary staff team to do their best work. I used my voice to delegate tasks to efficiently get them done, as well as pushing with perseverance when I was beyond the point of exhaustion.…
