How Did The Marching Band Change Our Society
The Butler County Performing and Visual Arts programs our community offers has truly changed the person I am today. Through the Butler County High School Band, I have learned how to play the flute and been doing so for eight years and been able to perform in the marching band as a color guard member for four years. It truly has been such a blessing to be in such an amazing program, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities and friendships it has given me. I began playing the flute in 5th grade at Morgantown Elementary School. Never would I imagine the memories and friendships I have gained from picking up that flute when I was 10 years old. Our band directors would always be sure we had the utmost opportunities by always taking us to music festival each year to showcase our bands skills. Many other county’s programs do not take middle school groups, but Mr. Boyce Flener and Mr. Jason Ausbrooks always pushed us to be the best we could be; I sincerely thank each one of them for always …show more content…
From the day I made the team I was determined to put all my effort into being my absolute best at all I did for the band. By my sophomore year, I was already able to spin weapon. Our team has had some great accomplishments in marching band such as placing 3rd overall colorguard two years in a row at the Logan County Festival of Bands and advancing to state semi-finals each of my four years in high school. I am so sad to be leaving such a program behind. My junior year we expanded the colorguard program by competing in a percussion ensemble with added guard for visual effect. Our entire team was excited to start this new program, and it was very exciting to be one of the first participants. From this year to last year our group has already made so many improvements, and I hope to continue improvement throughout the rest of our

I am writing concerning Tripp Moore, whom I have come to know throughout my years as the Flomaton High School “Hurricane” Marching Band drumline instructor. As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

As I pulled my hat on, a deluge of panic rushed over me. Suddenly, I felt like I was going to have an anxiety attack. I couldn’t have one - not after I’d worked so hard on controlling it. But as we lined up at the end zone, I knew I’d be okay. One last run through, one last push. With chins up and eyes wide with pride, we marched onto the football field, our hearts pounding, to our opening positions. I listened as the crowd cheered for us and the drum major, the leader and conductor of the band, saluted to express the band was ready. I performed my heart out, hitting every position, playing every note with all of my passion. Within nine fleeting minutes, we struck that last impact with everything we had and snapped our horns down, then hustled…

When I joined the Bridgewater-Raritan program in August, I did not know what to expect. I knew that band was going to be hard work and a lot different than middle school. Personally, I think I have gotten more out of being a part of the program than I did in middle school, both with my skills and life lessons. I remember one of my first days when Mr. Markiewicz said that we would build an unbreakable relationship with our instrument. I have to admit that when he said that I giggled a little and said “yeah right” to myself. I hate to say it, but Mr. Markiewicz, you were right. I have grown to love practicing; I can feel my fingers responding faster, my air intensity increasing, and my mind becoming more alert whenever I pick up my clarinet. I can look back and see how much I have improved since the last note I played as an eighth grader, and I smile a little bit, knowing that this is only the beginning of my development in music.…

Out of all the extra-curricular activities I have listed, marching band is the most significant one. In marching band, I met a lot of people that became very close friends with me. My clarinet group was like a small family. We practice and compete together. I was one of the favorite ones in my clarinet group, because I kept everyone happy when the group are going through hard times. For example, if I recall it correctly, during my freshman year, we competed in a competition, and got first place in the prelims, but when we got to finals, we lost our first place position. My group was sad, but I kept them happy. Marching band has made a huge impact in my life by teaching my how to challenge myself more, and how to have a more organized schedule…

“Consistency!” Paul, Adam, and Mr. Dietrich loved to scream this word at us. Band camp was probably the best and the worst days of my life but I would go through it all over again if given the chance. There were times when Paul would get so frustrated with the front ensemble that he would just leave without saying when he would be back or not and whenever he did that it was a bit of a saddening realization. It wasn’t just Paul that got mad like this Adam got just as mad and when Dietrich would get mad like that, it was time to duck and cover. What all of this made me realize though was that practicing is the only thing that will help you get good and sheer talent is never enough. I was dumb enough to ever think that my talent and family history in fine arts was going to cut it. Now though I can say that practice makes perfect and practice is the only thing to make perfect.…

Marching band is my life, or at the very least, it's the majority of my free time. In marching band, we have been trying to push ourselves physically to be in shape for this competitive season. We run laps every practice, rotate between different muscular exercises, and practice breathing fully – which is harder than it seems. At the beginning of the season, I began to struggle by about halfway into the first lap. I'd become light-headed a few sets into breathing exercises. I couldn't seem to keep up with the bar that was being set for us, however; I continued to push myself to – and occasionally beyond – my breaking point. After every practice, I was sore and exhausted, then it suddenly started getting easier. I’m now able to jog nearly two…

Looking back at my high school career, the connections that I have made with peers through marching band prove to be unparamounted. Continuing to participate in marching band at Michigan would allow me to make new friends and connections with people far more diverse than the student body at my school, thus exposing me to new ideas. The time commitment is grand, but this activity has and will continue to advance my skills as a musician, a leader, and make me a more well-rounded person. After four years of dedication, I am interested in pursuing my favorite fall activity at the college level.…

A month before the start of the school year, over 100 high school students show up early in the morning for 8 hours of practice every day. I’m not talking about the football team. I’m talking about the high school marching band. Each member will be at the school getting in shape, learning how to march, and practicing music for weeks, working to perfect an 8-minute show to perform in front of thousands of people. As a member of the Clear Falls High School band, I know how important marching band is to its members and the high school community. Marching bands across Texas are incredibly valuable not only for their members in high school and the school community but also for its members later in life.…

I participated in a combined middle/high school band since seventh grade, which includes marching and concert seasons. I have been the flute section leader starting in eighth grade until the present. As a senior, I became the drum major. When the band director wasn’t able to, I led the band in afterschool practices with the other drum major. Through an audition process, I was selected to participate in All-District band for three years. Every year of high school, I have prepared and performed a flute solo on the District level. As a freshman, I received a one rating at the district and state level.…

By the time I was six years old, I had my parents sold on piano lessons. From that day on, my music books weighed more than my school books, and practice became a way of life. I was infatuated with music, and my older brothers smirked at the “old white haired guys” (also known as the best of classical composers) that I listened to through elementary school. In fifth grade, I picked up the trombone and fell in love with it too. In high school, the years of musical practice started to pay off. By junior year, I was playing in six regular ensembles (orchestra, jazz, church orchestra, brass quintet, trombone choir, and school band). I added up 72 performances that year. At the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts that summer I experienced…

Before every competition I think of the purpose of why marching band competitions are so important especially to me. First it shows of my talent of being a big influence for playing trombone. Second I’m representing the school by playing in the show and working hard showing and telling people I’m from Beatrice high school and im proud. Third the most important thing my grade. Unless I have a really good excuse like getting surgery you never miss a band competition. If i miss a competition the next day I would have an big fat F in class. And that would kill me more than the grade itself getting killed. But I’m a freshman what would i know! Until one competition changed my life and a day I will never forget.…
