Informative Speech: The Importance of High School Marching Band A month before the start of the school year, over 100 high school students show up early in the morning for 8 hours of practice every day. I’m not talking about the football team. I’m talking about the high school marching band. Each member will be at the school getting in shape, learning how to march, and practicing music for weeks, working to perfect an 8-minute show to perform in front of thousands of people. As a member of the Clear Falls High School band, I know how important marching band is to its members and the high school community. Marching bands across Texas are incredibly valuable not only for their members in high school and the school community but also for its members later in life. Being in band provides a great experience for its hundreds of members. Everyone in band is welcoming and friendly, so you can always find a group of people to become friends with. Every football game, spectators can expect a show at halftime. Also, many communities have marching band festivals annually, where many bands compete throughout the day. At these competitions, thousands of people show up to watch and listen to the bands. Groups in drum corps international, sort of like major league marching band, perform throughout the summer with millions of eager fans. High school bands also have an invaluable impact on their own school. They represent their school wherever they go, and the accolades they obtain go directly to their school. Also, the band is a huge part of school spirit, helping to pump up the student section and football players at games. Without the band, high schools would have much less spirit and
