Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeals most to you, and why?
The caring community that Florida State University portraits, is an environment I feel that I would fit into, and greatly contribute. As all four characteristics appeal to me, leadership and service are the greatest in my mind. The transition into adulthood in my recent life has come mainly from the position of leadership I have been given in my church. Aside from leadership, I serve my community and school through many service projects and events.
In December of 2014, my church was in need of a leader of worship for the Sunday morning services. Since my father is the senior pastor of the church, and I have a gift in music, I was given the position. At first, they gave me this with the intentions of it being short term, but as I matured and gained the respect of the people in the congregation, it has become more permanent. At first it was tough to manage the time between organizing rehearsals and everything else involved in being the worship leader, as well as school, but it has become much easier to manage over time. Aside from leadership in my church, I lead the chapel worship team at my school, am president of our honor choir, and organize the National Honors Society’s trips to our local Alzheimer’s center.
Service in the community is also a large part of my life. Many service opportunities come out of churches, which give me many chances to serve my community outside of school. Inside of the church, is serve to help and occasionally lead Sunday school for the youth. At church events, I have been nominated as the official popcorn maker, and have just recently become victim to the dreaded dunk tank. Through school, I am involved
