Johnny has repeated patterns that interfere with prosoccial interactions with his peers and adults. Johnny engages is aggressive behaviors in the manner of biting his fellow classmates and pinching his teacher during one-on-one instruction. Aggressive behaviors in older children may be a result in never having learned appropriate non-aggressive behaviors (Munson, 2015). The cause of the behaviors may be due to any assortment of reasons. A Functional Behavior Assessment will collect and analyze data to interpret, the purpose and intent behind Johnny’s behaviors.
Observational methods will include indirect and direct assessments such antecedents associated with Johnny’s biting and pinching behaviors. Scatter-plot observations will identify patterns related to Johnny’s pinching and biting in frequency, duration, and latency. Alex does not have a medical history of bladder control problems however; a count of the frequency and duration of bathroom breaks should be counted in the event that indeed has a medical issue that has gone unnoticed. Medical issues needs to be ruled out to accurately determine Alex’s the frequency behaviors to the bathroom is indeed of avoidance. The observational methods used will to determine appropriate modifications and accommodations necessary to in increase intrinsic motivations and find patterns in off-task behaviors. Additionally, these methods can be used to determine Alex’s learning style. Alex’s behaviors can derive that he is not learning how the teacher is teaching and begin teaching how Alex learns. Consequently, informing Alex in a non-threating neutral setting that his teacher’s are aware of his off-task behaviors may motivate Alex to be more aware of his behaviors with the intention for him to make a conscious decision to stay
