Gun Violence Persuasive Speech
Gun violence is a serious issue, but is taking away guns going to solve it? I think it will not for three main reasons: Laws only affect law abiding citizens, other countries have tried this (it doesn’t work), and that it would be almost impossible to enforce. To start things off, making laws to ban guns will not stop people from getting them. People will buy the guns in question on the black market. The Trans Border Institute estimates that over 250,000 guns are illegally imported into the U.S. and sold on the black market in one year. If someone wanted an illegal gun, they could also buy it on the dark web (almost as many unregistered guns are sold here in one year). If guns aren’t allowed the people who get them illegally will only be …show more content…
Countries like Australia and Britain have very strict laws. In Australia a law was passed where government would collect all guns from citizens. Britain makes all handguns, semi-automatic, and pump action weapons illegal. Since these laws has been put in place there has been no decrease in gun violence or in number of mass shootings per year for both countries. Australia, Britain, and the U.S. are three very similar countries. If it failed for these two it will also fail for America. If we tried to take away guns, it would be impossible to enforce without ignoring other crimes. About 40% of households in the U.S. have at least one registered gun. This means that the police would need to get permits to search for and seize guns from 50.4 million houses. To pu that into perspective there are 1.8 million police in the U.S. . That means that there are more than 25 times as many houses with guns than police (taking police with guns into account). Rebuttal: Australia and Britain have both seen decreases in gun deaths since these laws have been put in place. It is also estimated that the U.S. would see a two thirds decrease in gun deaths. So therefore, guns should be banned to prevent

The main idea of stricter gun control is to deter crime rates, but doing this could potentially increase crime rates instead. Not allowing law abiding citizens to own guns will leave them defenseless to criminals that still have access to illegal guns. If criminals know that citizens no longer have guns to protect themselves, they are more likely to attempt that crime on them thus increasing crime rates. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), “Global Study on Homicide,”…

Gun control wont affect murder rates. study's have shown if they ban guns or get stricter gun control laws they will use other weapons to substitute guns. Russia, for example has extremely tight gun control laws. Its murder rate is still quite high in fact its twice as high as our gun ridden United states. So there for banning guns wont get rid of murder. A study revealed that most of the European countries such as Norway, France, Germany, and Finland has significantly lower murder rates. Compare that to Luxembourg where handguns are totally banned and any type of gun is minimal has a murder rate nine time higher than Germany.…

Every Time there is a violent crime involving guns the media and public leaders blame guns and not the person accused of committing the crime FBI conducted an experiment and people were likely to be killed by a handheld object five times more than a rifle. Banning guns will affect only the law abiding citizens not criminals. Criminals don't follow the law that's why they are called criminals. If you're going to outlaw guns then might as well ban everything on market that can potentially hurt people. Gun laws in the U.S. should not be restricted because…

II. Gun Control simply wouldn’t be a good idea and is not the answer to this ongoing problem. Our right to bear arms should not be taken away. The only thing this would accomplish is taking away the right and protection for those who do make good choices. Criminals have and will find other ways to commit their crimes. So, I hope that the next time the gun control debate comes up; you will take a stand and be able to voice why gun control will not work.…

Gun control can be looked at from many different viewpoints from many different people. Some people believe that all crime will be stopped while others think it will only increase. Guns should not be banned in the U.S because banning them will not make the killers stop, good people need to help, and making guns illegal will just lead to people disobeying the law.…

Gun Safety has been a big topic that people are speaking of all the time. The Second Amendment says that citizens have the right to bear arms. That amendment was created for militias as America had become free and they didn’t want any surprise attacks from Britain incase they tried to take America back, now America and Britain are close allies. Everyday on the news there’s always a shooting and maybe it’s because guns are easy to access. I do not think that civilians need guns. Now some might argue that the police are corrupt and that they don’t want to rely on the police to do something that they can handle but that is their job. If guns are banned than their needs to be higher protection against smuggling as criminals will obviously not…

If we were to cut off guns, many workers would be laid off, and we will see a slightly drop in economics. These are highly skilled workers and laying people off is not what we aim for but if we really have to, we really need to. Guns are linked to political and economic aspects of our country. This issue is not easy to solve but soon enough, we will have to find a…

theguardian.com tolled me about the Port Arthur mass shooting in which 35 people were killed, but thousands of lives are saved each year by their gun laws(It took one massacre). So why can't america do this? Well it's more of a problem with unregistered guns, the government has no way to count, track, or manage them.If we got rid of all guns except the unregistered guns then there will still be mass shootings and firearm assisted crimes but no guns to defend us.”but what about the police will they still have guns”, well yes of course the police will have guns, but with less guns they will have less need for their firearms and may use the stun technology…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

It has been a proven fact that the states with stricter gun control have increased the crime rate by a lot. That is happening because some people still have guns and the government are disarming everybody else which makes it easier to rob store gas stations and banks. “Although guns killed 35,957 people in 1995 the guns didn’t pull the trigger people did.”(Schmittroth 3) Most of those killings were from having gun control. If we got rid of gun control it would reduce the amount of crimes that go on in the United States. Most of the guns in the United States protect lives more than they take lives. But that only happens when there is no gun control. And handguns are perfect for women to keep in there purse to have for self-defense. But the government is trying to pass gun control which will leave most of the women defenseless. Which bad thing is that approximately 200,000 women in the United States use guns to protect themselves from sexual crimes every single year. And guns prevent more injures than they…

Infact a shooting happened on April 2007 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, “in which gunman Seung-Hui Cho killed thirty-two people. Just about any adult can go and buy a gun, without showing identification or passing a background check. As a result, Seung-Hui Cho, with a record of mental health problems, was able to open fire on classrooms at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in April 2007, killing and wounding many students and teachers.” Gunman Seung-Hui Cho bought his gun at a gunshow, with no background checks. If firearms were not available to the american public these 32 innocent victims wouldn't have died. The man who was lucky to have survived the shooting investigated the subject himself. He found out that at gun shows you can buy a gun in five minutes, and at a bit of a higher price you can skip the background checks. Every situation where there are armed civilians there are more chances of people…

Many countries have a controversy whether they should ban guns or whether not to. In the United States they have not banned handguns completely like other countries. Can you just imagine how much peaceful things would be if they would ban them in the united states as well? Lately as you can see in the news there have been massive gun shootings in schools from all ages. How is it possible for just any one to get hold of a gun that easily? Some benefits to banning handgun would be there won't be so much gun violence, not everyone can get hold of a gun so easily, and the population or estimates of kids dying do to gun issues would drop massively.…

The problem being crimes committed using fire arms. What the Government fails to recognize is that criminals do not abide by the laws, taking weapons away from law abiding citizen will only give the criminals more means to do harm. There is a law against braking and entering but criminals still do it. There is a Law against stealing, yet criminals still continue to steal. So what will taking guns away from Law abiding citizens do? Absolutely nothing other than make citizens more vulnerable to the criminals. While a study was found between 1980 and 2009, shows the States with restrictions on carrying concealed fire arms had higher gun-related murders(ProCon #2). This will also be the first and only Law that amplifies the problem rather than helping. If criminals want to have guns they will find a way to get them. Taking away legally owned guns does not get rid of the illegally owned guns. The Gun Control Law will give criminals the upper hand, they will be more likely to shoot innocent people to get why they want, expectably know there will not be bullet fired back at them. The reason Gun control has not affect on murders is because the killing is not being done people with legally owned…
