Healthy School Lunches
Thousands of students throughout the United States do not get fresh and healthy school lunch; therefore, leading to an increase in chronic diseases among students. But what has the school’s system done? The real problem here is that schools do not spend the lunch money appropriately, and bring flavorless processed food to the reach of students. School lunches should be improved in order to deliver fresh, organic and presentable food to the students on campus. The school lunches are the opportunity to teach students a healthy eating lifestyle at an early start. Fresh and organic lunches help students to reinforce a taste for healthy, nutritious food and leave those bad habits of eating processed foods with high fats, salts, and sugars behind. Therefore, students will keep these healthy eating habits and, as a result, have healthier lives. The majority of the students are not satisfied with the food that the school gives them; for example, a survey, made to acknowledge the opinion of students who consume school lunch, has highlighted the idea that 80% of the students prefer not to eat anything at all. As a result, the unconsumed food will age and be discarded since no one wanted to eat it (Fresh Food Survey). For this reason, the food served should be fresh and appealing to the …show more content…
The students are more likely to suffer from food related health issues, such as hypertension, diabetes and other chronic diseases. In addition, The Action for Health Kids suggests that “children who are overweight may be at risk higher absenteeism, which can be linked to lower academic achievement” (Livestrong p.4). It is important that the students get a healthy meal in order for them to have full energy and succeed in school.
