High School Volleyball Research Paper
To me playing the game of volleyball is something incredibly special. I started playing around fifth grade, and as soon as I started I automatically fell in love with this sport. I remember going to high school volleyball games and saying “that’s going to be me one day” or “I hope to be as good as her when I get to high school”. Then I finally got here to the high school level and to tell you the truth I thought I was going to get cut my freshman year but, to my surprise, I made JV! I was so incredibly astounded and proud of myself there are not words to describe what it meant to me to see my name on the lists of people who made the team not only my freshman year but all four of my years here at Airport. It is truly a privilege to play for

One blistering summers’ day in Northwest Florida, home for college, Jay was cleaning out the garage. This was apart of his mother’s summer clean sweep project, which she did every year. Jay comes from a family who is very involved in sports. So as he was singing the childhood clean up and going through and sorting the football pads, softballs, baseball, batting and fielding gloves, sweet bands, and other athletic equipment and sports wear he came across a recognizable object. It was his old bat. The Bat he used in little league almost 10 years ago. This was the first bat that Jay ever had. As Jay held the dusty, paint chipped, dry-rotting but yet still majestic bat in his hands, fond memories of the typical day at the ballpark began to flood his mind.…

Michael Jordan, a basketball superstar, once said: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.” We all are destined for something great. There are people destined to be an Olympian. There are people who are destined to win an Oscar or to star in blockbuster movies. But there are people whose steps lead to the making of basketball legends.…

As a freshman, I made the varsity volleyball team. With this position came a lot of responsibility and pressure. My teammates always looked at me as the “baby”, but they expected me to play at the same level as the seniors. I learned how to deal with difficult personalities and I learned how to commit myself to a team and a sport. I also learned that I was a role model to other teammates and young volleyball players. Just like the Pink Ranger, people looked up to me and I tried to lead by example throughout my volleyball career.…

While I encourage most basketball players to go to college and advance their education to the next level, those special individuals whose athletic ability gives them the opportunity to provide for themselves and compete at the highest level should not be denied the opportunity based the current requirement that players must be 19 years old to play for the NBA. High school basketball players should be mature enough to make their own decisions about their career paths, so the NBA shouldn't deny them. Furthermore, other sports have employed teenagers for years with success.…

Football is not too dangerous to be played in high school. Football is a popular sport with half a million injuries nationally. 4 out of every 1000 high school football exposures resulted in an injury and 8 of out of every 1000 collegiate football exposures resulted in injuries so that means that even if it’s played in high school or college levels there is still a risk of injuries. High school football players have a greater proportion of getting season ending injuries as in fractures and concussions. High levels of ankle and knee injuries are most common when playing football. But to avoid these injuries it’s recommended that players condition their ankles and knees more, and a change at protecting the more vulnerable body parts. To make…

As a freshman, with previous experience playing volleyball in middle school and at the beach, this essence of competition was very attractive to me and so I tried out and made the junior varsity team. Last year, during my club season, after sitting on the bench for the first part of the year, my coach recognized my improvement and hard work and gave me the starting role for the second half of the season. The little voice in my head telling me "you'll never make it!" or "you're not good enough!" inspired (and continues to inspire) me to persistently improve every aspect of my playing during practice and such an attention to detail, combined with my inner motivation to improve, lead to my…

If I had to pick one extracurricular activity to pursue in college, I would definitely choose club volleyball. Ever since I started playing volleyball in the 7th grade, I have been hooked. From that point on, the sport has become an invaluable part of me that has helped me grow into the person I am today. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team.” I was determined to work as hard as I could to be placed on an advanced high school team. Thankfully, my hard work earned me a spot on a state-winning varsity roster as a freshman. We went on to win two state championships, and I personally received an All-West Region award. In this way, volleyball taught me that teamwork, dedication, and perseverance…

Scholar athletes deserve to be given special treatment because we have to go above and beyond more than the average student. There are times that as a student athlete that you will have to miss class due to road trips. When I was a freshman, I was assigned two papers in one day and they were both due the very next day, because I had to leave for a basketball road trip and we would have been gone the entire week and I would be missing the due date that was assigned for each one of the assignments. My teachers did not accept emailed assignments and only accepted hard copies. Now on that particular day I did not get out of class until twelve, had practice from…
