Embryological development of the kidneys & congenital abnormalities-
The kidneys are a vital bean shaped-shaped organ within the human body, located in the upper abdominal area they function in both regulating and filtering blood and controlling the body’s fluid balance through the removal of waste within the Mammalian Species.
With the kidney being fundamental to the both the urinary and the reproductive system their relationship lies in the embryonic development of these systems and the anatomical locations of the systems. It is firstly noted that both the urinary and reproductive systems in humans are formed from the same embryonic layer during fetal development.

A particular common type of congenital abnormality is Horseshoe kidney affecting approximately 1 in 400 patients. As the name suggests in this disorder the patients kidneys fuse together to form a horseshoe- shape during development in the womb, where the fused part is the isthmus of the horseshoe kidney. Due to the orientation of the kidneys they become more susceptible to trauma compared to normally located …show more content…
The condition persists to have no treatment yet is treated through regular monitoring and treating any directly related diseases that are correlated through horseshoe kidney, examples such as: urinary tract infections and hydronephrosis.
Relationship between the reproductive and urinary systems during development-
The urinary and reproductive systems in humans are created from the same embryo.
The relationship between the urinary and reproductive systems lies in the embryonic development of these systems and the anatomical locations of the systems. It is firstly noted that both the urinary and reproductive systems in humans are formed from the same embryonic layer during fetal development.
The two systems differentiate themselves into two separate bodily functions during the first trimester of maturation of the fetus. In which the urinary system develops into a system of bodily functions to remove waste, and the reproductive system develops into a system of bodily functions with the sole purpose to perpetuate the
