How Has Football Influenced My Life
I have been a part of the men’s basketball team here at Fort Campbell high school for three years the coaches have put a lot on my shoulders since my sophomore year. I tried to lead and be a role model as much as possible last year, and that helped me grow as a person and take on challenges my father and mother went through as a student athlete. My father was an extraordinary football and basketball player, he could have possibly got a D1 scholarship if he didn’t break his ankle his senior year. As I’ve been a part of the football and basketball team, I’ve influenced my sister to exercise and join sports instead of sitting in the house wasting time. Growing up she’s has basically been my shadow; she does just about everything I do so I try to lead by example. If anything my mom influenced me to …show more content…
He was really a big influence in life, because he was loving, caring, and always happy. He has always supported me in my goals and dreams, anything I needed I know I could go to him and get advice I needed. He was my go to about everything, not once he judged me on my opinion and always gave me the truth. I’m planning my life to make my family and mostly my grandfather proud to have a son, brother, and a grandson like me. Football shaped my physical aspect for my career, but basketball shaped my mental aspect. Both really helped and pushed me to limits that nobody could think of, my game and my social world has expanded and because of that I’m starting to get doors to open. Not cause of sports but cause of my academics and mindset. I plan to attend a four year university to expand my education and become a well-rounded individual in the world as of today. Also, become as well educated to my major that someday I can invent or help with a major issue in the sports world today. Winning or earning scholarships will get me one step closer to achieving my college prep, and getting my life on

My sister played Cross Country, Basketball, Track, and Softball. Being in the Piña family meant two things: doing well in school and playing multiple sports. Although it wasn’t easy at first, it was a part of my high school experience which also gave me great friends. Before entering my freshman year I did summer workouts with the cross country team that would become the State Champion cross country team later that year. After we won my freshman year, I knew that I wanted to be a part of a team that could succeed. So I worked hard and eventually became on the State Team my junior year. I also worked hard in Soccer, Baseball, and…

Both my grandfather and great-grandfather proudly served. Sam Patterson, my great-grandfather, is a WWII veteran who served in the Navy for many years. James Patterson, my grandfather, followed his father’s footsteps and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Both are disabled vets whose commitments to serve our country and the rigor this service demanded on their physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual levels are what fueled my desire to serve my peers in various capacities. My other grandfather, Herbert Owenby, was a gifted athlete who participated in two varsity sports at the collegiate level. People tell me that I get my athleticism from him. I think he actually molded me into the person I am today. He once told me the most important thing I could do in life was not to excel in sports but to be the best person I could be and help others when they needed help. He never got to see me win a national title, a state title, or even participate in a high school sport. But I know nothing would make him prouder of me than being the best person I can be and helping those along the way. He was given the opportunity to attend Boys State in 1963; an opportunity that probably helped shape him into the man he became. All three grandfathers taught me to lead by example while being…

Ever since kicking my first soccer ball during Kinder Kicks, soccer has become a fundamental aspect of my life. Not only have I been playing the sport since then, but the sport has also influenced me beyond solely playing it. It is the culture surrounding the game as well. It is waking up early every Saturday morning to watch the Liverpool game, or getting ready to cheer on the New England Revolution in Gillette Stadium in the evenings. Soccer has been embedded everywhere in my life, from the posters on my bedroom walls to the jerseys that continue to accumulate on my closet floor. This passion has driven me to share the sport with as many as I can. With the Natick Soccer Organization, I have been organizing tournaments for U10 and U14 boys…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

My parents moved from Nigeria to Canada, where they had four children. Being the oldest, I have always tried to play the role of a protector and adviser, which is fulfilling when I see them feel comfortable when I'm around. At the age of five, my parents introduced me to the game of soccer, a game I have been intimately involved till now. This sport, being a team activity, helped shape my personality and character. A character in believing that working hard to contribute to a team effort is vital to the success of a club and that losing or winning a game is not the most important thing, rather learning and improving from it.…

Since I was 7 years old, basketball has played an integral part of my life. I have devoted countless hours to not just a sport, but a passion, an outlet; to the game that I love. When I arrived at Bow Middle School as a fifth grader, my classmates and I would always look up to the 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball teams. Every year during winter carnival, the boys and girls teams would play a game in front of the entire school. Playing in that game became a dream and a goal of mine, but first I would need to make the team. For three years I developed my basketball skills, using my passion for the sport and desire to play in that game as motivation. When tryouts for basketball in 8th grade drew near, I knew I was ready. However a new coach would be at the helm this year. Our new basketball coach was also a coach for the youth football program. This resulted in numerous football…
