How To Write A Reflective Practicum
When the semester began I had concerns about how much supervision time I would receive since my supervisor splits her time between four different agencies in the metropolitan area. Now that I have been at the agency over a month and had time to settle in at the agency, and has some supervision time with Marcela even she has expressed the importance of supervision. As Metropolitan State University of Denver requires as an intern we must receive a minimum of 1 hour of face to face supervision per week. Marcela made a comment on the importance of supervision and an hour a week is actually quite low as far as supervision goes. Even though Marcela is only at the Brighton location on Wednesday’s to give me supervision face to face, her office is always open to me or anyone else that needs to have time with her. She is always available to give me the one on one time that I need with her.

When I am able to learn and grow from this feedback it helps me to improve in this field. When dealing with people we are always going to face different personalities either with the clients or coworkers. With good supervision and taking the suggestions I am given and observing the behaviors and actions both physical and verbal of my supervisor and other professionals will help me develop in this profession. Marcela is always professional and I have never seen her become upset or even seem rattled regardless of the situation that may arise. Since I am still new to this line of work I can only hope that I to may show the calmness and politeness that I have observed by my supervisor. When things do come up I do respond in a professional manner but still inexperienced I get that slight tenseness in my gut so hopefully this feeling will reduce as time goes

In our positions of authority we need to perform our duties in a professional manner every time when dealing with emotionally charged clients. We cannot rely on what we did good last year or last month. Remember we are acting as an “ambassador” for our organizations. Even for the most tenure staff we still cannot afford to treat every verbal de-escalation attempt with complete professionalism. It only takes one bad effort and/or complaint to land us in hot water. Of course past service and record will be taken into consideration, but that may not be enough. You can be the most loyal and trusted employee but saying the wrong thing because you are angry/upset can cost you either your good reputation or maybe even your job. When I train instructors, I make sure they know this rule. A “humble” instructor is a good instructor. To be good at verbal de-escalation you need to be “humble”; a little humility can go a long way to you achieving your ultimate goal of “chosen compliance”.…

I can easily identify with this subject; we all change to adjust to our surroundings be it at home or work, a bar or with friends and family. We never act the same in front of our parents as we do in front of our friends or boss as we do a co worker. Example at work everyday we have a meeting called treatment team, where we discuss any client based concerns and issues or the same for the overall facility that is either client or staff based. We also talk about billing, funding and ideas that need addressed. Most times we can breeze through the meeting and joke every so often and yes sometimes we get off task. When the division director comes in who is over everyone in that room the entire demeanor of the room changes and we finish very quickly. This is due in part to her not being very approachable unless she feels like it and hardly ever smiles unless she is dealing with an outside source. This is something that does not happen daily but at least twice a week and the difference is very noticeable in all of our attitudes.…

As part of my Business Innovation Development Project Unit, I had the opportunity to put myself into group with my friends or people I believed I could work well with. In the first stages of our group we all tried to get to know each other more through analysing personality and learning types’ test that we previously undertook. I realise we were going through the normal stages of the team formation in particular forming and norming (Tuckman, 1965). In my assignment group we had all Belbin team roles which helped us perform well throughout our project and also helped us to identify other team members’ behavioural strengths and weaknesses. During the initial stages of the group getting together I believed it was important that we all had a clear objective and somewhat of a pathway of what we wanted to achieve and that everyone shared duties within the group. My group members had roles such as researching the market to see if there is a demand for Youni which was our product for university students, they also dealt with the financial side of our product and making analysis between our product and our competitor’s product.…

By utilizing four steps, I can effectively write an essay on the topics assigned during this program (Bethel, 2015). The first step is developing a clear point and is followed by supporting ideas. I plan to use quick notes to get my ideas down and make sure I need them. Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

Writing a piece of persuasive writing and bringing it through the writing process until publication has taught me so much about myself as a writer, nonfiction writing, and being a teacher of writing. Gillespie (1985) explained that only when teachers are writers can they truly teach writing, and throughout my writing process, I was able to think of various lessons that I could teach my students based upon my writing.…

What is reflective practice? In short, it’s a practice that helps you become an active learner. Many of us, including myself, may be considered or interpreted as passive learners. Passive learning goes a bit like this: we read textbooks, we follow everything our instructor or teacher tells us (sometimes we tune out), we write exams and then…we forget what we learned. It’s common and though not everybody goes through this, historically, it happens more often than not. However, with active learning we engage in conversations with our classmates and teacher, we ask questions, we figure out answers, we contribute and learn and teach each other. And ultimately, we engage with ourselves (and seldom tune out as a result). Oxford dictionary defines reflection as “a serious thought or consideration…an idea about something, especially one that is written down and expressed”. Reflective practice facilitates coping. From a personal perspective it is different for each of us like writing personal journals or talking on the phone with family/friends. From a professional perspective this is usually mores structured like when we complete our weekly log after a clinical day and reflect on what occurred during our time on the unit and reflect on a single moment and how we felt about it.…

I was very nonjudgmental about the couple’s views on their issues. I did not experience any countertransference and, I was aware of my values. During the session, I made sure that equal attention and support were provided to each person. I used my skills of reframing, active listening, summarizing, clarification, and nonverbal communication during the entire session. My strengths were being genuine and empathetic in the session. However, there is always room for improvement in all areas. I sometimes think my brain is computing information faster the movement of my mouth to express my train of thought. I must slow the pace of my verbiage to avoid the medical condition called ankyloglossia. Moreover, this was a great learning experience for me. It helped me to gain more knowledge about different areas of the counseling to explore as I enter my…

After my training, I decided to talk to my supervisor and let her know about my concerns. She had just stepped out and the only person left was the Assistant Supervisor. To my understanding, she is the Assistant Supervisor and should be able to help me, but I was wrong. I told her my situation and her response was simply, “wait until you meet with the supervisor, she will be here tomorrow and should be able to talk to you more about the schedule, you don’t have to worry because you still have training to do before you can start on the rooms.” She seemed to be avoiding me again and was always on a rush to just walk away. Am I over reacting? Am I understanding what she is saying? what happened to the title of Assistant Supervisor? I kept it professional and responded with an “ok, I will talk to her tomorrow,…
