Juan is a four-year old White/Caucasian male who is being raised in a single-parent home. Physically, Juan is growing up as healthy young boy standing at 40-45 inches tall. His body temperature ranges between 98-99.4 degrees F and his heart rate averages between 90-110 beats per minute. Being that Juan is the only child, he has a difficult time interacting with other children. He prefers to play alone and talk to himself.
2. What developmental domains (areas) are emphasized? Identify and describe patterns of behavior Juan displays in each domain.
There are a few developmental domains that were emphasized in this case study. They include:

What is Juan’s developmental level per domain? Explain and support the response with a theoretical perspective(s). Explain how the theoretical perspective(s) support the explanation.
Physical: At age-level: Physically, Juan is a very healthy four-year old. There are no concerns about his physical development.
Language/linguistic: Below age-level: At Juan age, he should be using more complex sentences instead of a few words. Vygotsky Theory of Language supports this because in this theory, he states that children acquire knowledge by participating in social experiences. Until the age of 4, the only social experience that Juan has was between him and his mother, which may result in his delay in language. Also, being that his mom is always busy, she may not have time to actually speak with him the way that she should.
Social and emotional: Below age-level: Bandura Social Learning Theory supports his development because it states that behavior is learned from the environment through observation. Being that Juan is the only child & is just starting at a Child Care center, he has not have the opportunity to observe other children and learn how to interact with …show more content…
By reading the case study, it states that when the children ask Juan to participate in role-play, he does not. Instead, he just laughs and smiles. Jean Piaget Theory of Cognitive Development (Preoperational stage) also states that during the preoperational stage, children often play in the same room as other child, but plays next to others rather than with them. In this case, Juan may be at age-level being that he does play beside the other
