One of the best ways to motivate people is to make good performance public! Employees respond very well to recognition when they do well as opposed to recognition because of what they don’t do well!
Need Theory: the person determines behavior (an employer must understand what employees need to be motivated and must be able to implement ways to motivate employees in the workplace)

Cognitive Need Theory: • Lower-Order Needs: Physiological, safety etc. vs. Higher-Order Needs: social, esteem, self-actualization, etc. • Extrinsic Needs: satisfied externally from the environment (pay, promotion, recognition) vs. Intrinsic Needs: satisfied internally from self (develop, grow, do something challenging) • Lower order needs tend to be extrinsic whereas higher order needs tend to be intrinsic
