Introduction The book, Hunt for Jade Dragon, by Richard Paul Evans, tells a continued story about Electric children saving a girl from a terrorist group known as the Elgen. They have to rescue this girl because they machine that gave them powers could be recreated from the help of this little girl, and the Elgen could use it to create an army of evil electric children. They travel to another country, Taiwan, and hide until they can rescue the girl. There is a problem though, the plant they are trying to get into is one of the best guarded and secure buildings in the world. She appears next to no time, so what is her true role in the story? The author makes it evident that she is there for many reasons actually. One of the main reasons is she is there for Michael, so he will have a goal, a goal of coming home. She is there as a loving character, always setting a goal, in all of the other book, the goal of that book has something to do with Michael wanting to see his mother, part of his goal is being with her. For instance, Michael, when he leaves for Taiwan, says “I’ll come back to you Mom.” (Paul Evans 128) It shows how much Michael wants to come back to his mom, and how much she means to him and how that drive will push him to work harder. It shows how not only is his goal to rescue Jade Dragon, but also to see his mother once more.
Another example is after they rescue the girl. Michael is talking with Ian about their experience in the plant, when Michael starts talking about his family and talks about how he wants to see his mom again.
