This lesson is simple, but at the same time one of the most complex; never give up on yourself or those around you. As I watched my team and myself struggle over the season I realized that Coach Everman refused to give up on us or himself, as he was determined for us to get as many wins as we could. I remember a point doing a game my Freshman year where I was sick and tired of striking out and just wanted one hit to help out my team. That same game with two outs and bases loaded, Coach Everman approached me and told me that he believed in me and that he didn’t want anyone else batting for him at that time. I took what he said to heart and realized that if he could believe in me, then I could believe in myself. I got a single on that play and was able to score in a run to help us win the game. Since that day I have refused to look down on myself or others struggling around me.
